....at some point, as Lunardi said, it may very well come down to this. Certainly at game time (assuming we both meet in the CUSA tournament) the thought will be on everyone's mind that:

Whoever wins this game will be in the dance. Whoever loses won't be. Probably going to be that simple.

I don't see you guys going if you lose to us three times. Just is not going to happen.

That being said, if you can bet us one out of three, along with our out of conference wins, it might get you there.

A few weeks ago, I thought the Tigers would have to win the CUSA championship. Now it appears that the league will get two in, and if we MAKE THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME, I believe we are in. Not a guarantee, but in.

Likewise, if you get to the championship game, we could be out, and you in.

Both teams will have to play this game as if their tournament lives depend on it, as they probably will. To be sure, I think we are in your heads a bit and that we will win. But am taking NOTHING here for granted. It's going to be a war, assuming both teams win the games they are supposed to win.

Tigers 66
UAB 61

But NOT easily
I meant beat and your out of conference wins. Sorry for the incorrect words.
We played better defensively the 2nd game, but stunk up the place on offense.

If we cannot find some way to do better offensively, we will not win.

You didn't seem to have that big of an inside game last time (& really didn't need it), however I think that we will try to pound it inside more.

Look for Crawford & Cooper to start along with Millsap, AJ, & Sanders.

If I were Memphis, I would stay in the zone the entire game.

(Crap, I keep forgetting that we will have to beat USM to even get to Memphis)

So enough about Memphis until Thursday evening sometime.
It should be a good game and playing on a neutral court will add an interesting dynamic to it, although you guys may have more of a "home court" advantage due to your traveling fan base. Hopefully the Tulsa fans and any other spectators there will be rooting against you guys. It's funny how we're essentially in the same position next week as we were this week: We have to beat Memphis to even have a shot at getting in and we have to beat Memphis and UTEP to guarantee an invite. Of course before we do any of that we will likely have to beat USM, which isn't going to be easy.
IF not to many upset the, the winner of memphis -uab will be making it like DEPAUL VS UAB at bjcc
and will end up with a 12 seed
We can't look past USM, though. Both games against them this year have been tough.
Southern Miss has good players and a terrible coach - but they have to get past Tulane first. They beat Tulane by 18 in NO and by 9 in the dump. So they have to beat someone three times, too, before we play them. And Tulane has Hogan!

Southern Miss is dangerous to us. We will need serious effort from coaches and players, and a full mustering of Belief.

Maybe Tulane can pull off the upset. I'm concerned about playing USM in our first game but not really any more concerned than I would have been had we drawn Houston, SMU and especially Tulsa first.

If Tulane pulls the upset, so help me....I'm on the next plane to Tulsa.

Must visit Hogan again.
While I know it can happen I just don't see you guys losing to USM or Tulane before you get to us. I think we have a slightly better chance to lose to Houston if Coleman goes off.

That being said I just don't see UAB over Memphis. The game last night at UTEP confirmed at least in my eyes that your team is offensively challenged and will have a hard time stopping the Tigers. I also saw UTEP as not as talented as I thought and ripe for the picking in the tournament.

I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't make it to the championship.
mullinsworld, I agree with you on Houston. They're some truly schizophrenic bastages. They might win by 20 or lose by 20.

Something I think we all agree on is that we hope that the Tulsa everyone thought would show up this year doesn't pick this weekend to show up.

Yeah, UTEP look very beatable last night. If Culpepper is off UTEP can struggle offensively as well. I think Memphis is playing their best ball of the season right now and if the 3 balls keep falling I think we're going to be tough to beat.
.
Who woulda thunk four months ago that UAB would finish the regular season with the highest RPI in the conference?

Rank - Team - Overall Record - RPI - SOS Rank - Conf. W/L

40 - UAB - 23-7 - 0.5946 - 94 - 11-5
41 - UTEP - 24-5 - 0.5941 - 117 - 15-1
46 - Memphis - 23-8 - 0.5860 - 79 - 13-3

And lost 4 games to the other two teams in the top 3.
