Nice job guys. Very impressive effort. Great defense. Better ball movement. Agressive on the boards. Mick and the boys got it done today and deserve our praise.

I agree! Big win! Keep working hard and we'll get some more W's!!!
We have a heartbeat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A poor first half by both teams, but Cincinnati turned it on in the 2nd half. I thought the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half were strong. They got 3-point attempt happy as the game entered the final phase and got sloppy. Wasn't pleased with last 3 minutes, but at least they held on. While Vaughn has a lot of flaws, at least he can make free throws in the clutch (most of the time). While UConn isn't the team they have been in the past, it still is a good win. They needed it bad and went out there and got it. Great job.

UConn's probably kicking themselves because they shot like they're blindfolded and didn't implement the press sooner. Watching them play was painful. I'm surprised teams don't press UC.
We have had a few teams press us and we have been solid breaking outside of the last couple of minutes of games.
Defense wins tough ball games. UC played hard D all day. Helped that UConn is really struggling but UC turned it up in the second half and won that game with good defense. Another shaky close out of the game and I don't understand why guys like Deonta play hot potato with the ball, rushing passes they don't need to make. But eventually they settled down and Deonta held the ball a second longer to get fouled and make his FTs.
Its February, take the W and move on. Now they just got to try to take another step forward on the effort and execution front and keep things moving forward and not take a step back. one tough game at a time.
Like you all, I'm very happy with the W. If I hadn't seen the game and only read the recap in the paper tomorrow morning, I'd be downright ecstatic.

But, since I did watch the game, I have this odd disappointed feeling that shouldn't be there after a 12-point win on the road against a former Top 10 team with a Hall-of-Fame coach...
We beat UCONN at UCONN....Texas didn't

UCONN may not be their normal selves but a road win in the BE is a road win....I'm thrilled. Texas would have loved to get out of town with a win, instead they got crushed. It's the Big East...
Texas played them in a different venue which is a totally different environment.
I have a hard time with the negativity, somehow we are supposed to feel bad that we won, was the win not aesthetic enough or not at the right venue, give me a break, this team beat UConn, a team with two NBA players and dominated them in the second half. Kemba Walker was Mick's top choice for a PG.
I think the win was great. I just think comparing it to their game against Texas is pushing it a bit. Gampel is 10 times as hard to play in as XL.

UConn isn't that good, they are 4-8 in conference play.
Hey Sub,

What makes them choose between facilities? I see that they play Louisville at Gampel later this month.

??
Some of it has to do with the opponent. They like to have the bigger name teams on campus at Gampel. It is smaller, but louder and the fans are right on top of the court. They also can guarantee a full student section at Gampel. Sometimes they have trouble getting students to make the 30 minute drive to Hartford in the middle of the winter. They also have to work their schedule at XL around other events going on there. XL sucks as an arena. It was built for the Whalers back in the day and has not been updated since they left town.
Thanks

Subflea seems up to speed on this.
He used to live in or about the area
I spent 4 years living in CT. I have been to XL quite a few times. The worst being the night Kirkland blew out his knee when he was having the best game of his career. I wouldn't say I became a fan of UConn while up there, but definitely became an interested observer.
Flea is correct, I grew up in Hartford...the XL center..err...Hartford Civic Center is comparable to US Bank Arena. Great to watch a game..but Gampel Pavilion which is on campus in Storrs is totally different.

That being said....watching Calhoun and the Huskies meltdown was interesting. Calhoun said it was one of the most embarrassing losses he's been a part of and he was embarrassed by their play. Never thought I hear that happen against the Bearcats.

Way to go 'Cats!
