I've read snippets where we have recruited the parents of the young man to help him flip. If we get good intel this will be a victory for those who want us to follow a set of rules. We don't have to torture to get results and it may even be more reliable. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens here. I'm sure many of you who defended torture will say you were wrong if we get good intel without it.

Not every case can be approached in the same cookie-cutter fashion. I know you're just a substitute teacher, but I assumed that was common sense.
What about all the incredibably accurate and actionable intel from those "tortured" with cold cells, sleep deprivation and Def Leopard?

Should that intl not be actionable based on your sides definition of torture?
People in our captivity died while under interrogation. People died under duress in our interogations. Tapes detailing these interrogations were destroyed. You connect the dots. Sleep deprivation and Def Leopard don't kill people. It's a black mark in our nation's history. I for one am glad we are carrying out a smarter policy in our dealings with Al-Quadea. Closing Guantanomo should be the next step.

Mach, I think each terrorist should be treated in the manner best decided by his interrogators and if that includes a little influential dip in the pool then I say "oh well, it sucks to be you" Terrorists took a risk and failed, now they pay. And people have died in regular police interrogations so I'm not concerned about the deaths of terrorists who die while in custody.

What I really think, however, is we need to stop treating terrorists as celebrities. We need to make the world know that if you try to commit a terrorist act against us and get caught then we're going to deprive you of what caused you to do it, specifically, we take away their religion. No Korans, no signs pointing to Mecca, no long hair and beards, and we'll play Jewish and Christmans music all day and make them listen to it.

I am not willing to lose sleep over what has been legally proven as effective interrogation techniques, not torture, regardless of moral posturing.

We're at war with a culture that measures time in millennia, and doesn't hold quarter with message board outrage.

How about this...?

We give him Miranda and then tell the Underwear Bomber that he has the option to talk to the CIA/FBI.. otherwise we transfer him into the custody of the Nigerian SSS (State Security Service).. who are well known for their "heavy handed" methods of interrogation, and really dislike Islamic radicals...

And no, Daddy can't help you...

He would spill the beans if he was smart.

We should squeezed what we could out of them, then shot them in the desert and buried them in a pit full of pigs. That would have been entirely legal under international law.

Or just say, look we've flown mom and dad in so they can visit you. They might make it home safely ... it's up to you.
