Great game today inspite of the negative Nancies.

I had a great day and half in town. Took in a HS Friday nite where I got my first gig. My team is now in their late 40's and some turning 50. Ugh.

Caught up with a couple former room mates and spouses for lunch at Burdicks for the pre-game meal. Chowed down at Bilbos post Martin HS game Friday nite. Salad is still out of this world. But they don't serve slices after 11 am? Whas dat!
Hit Watervliet heading home after the game and caught some wrasling and a couple former collegues, then pulling back on to 94 heard NIU give up the ghost against the 'skins in DeKalb.
All good.

At the game had a chance to talk briefly with Mike Squires, best HS hoops official I ever ran across. Talked with the a former Associate AD and a teammate at half time. Sat up in 212 and enjoyed the view.

Game comments:
Tempo played right into BGSU's hands.

I agree with Tommyboy. It wasnt the press persay, it was that it caught BGSU unprepared. The half court trap was worthless after the 2nd try. I was begging Hawk to go straight up. If it wasnt for Polk clanging dunk of the iron and Mikey running the ball down then sprinting up the floor for a layup - no dice. A 4 point swing.

Zone offense in the first half was purely perimeter until they started getting the ball into the middle. Twice hit Flen on the move (NOT Sumo wrestling on the block) and he hit two running layup/hooks. Throwing into DL against a match up and our perims standing begs DL to put it on the floor. Bugs collapsed and dug it out 3x. When into Flen (small post) on the block they doubled him. Dribbling to the corner to escape that trap was a turnover waiting to happen.

2nd half continued with the same malaise offensively and defensive break downs both on the pick and roll up top and the cross screening inside running smalls off of bigs. Twice Tel called to switch with Mikey getting Larson then Polk. Hawk pulled him and went with D Ward but the apparently it wasnt just Tel but the scheme.

The change occured with wings sliding into the middle and forcing poor match ups in the zone. Polk was staring at Maynor or Kool. Otherwise it was as if mano y mano. Wards efforts on the glass were crucial. 2nd chances in a 1 pt. game were huge.

Not pretty but a win.

Nothing has changed. Game at a time. Cant worry about what someone else is doing. Win yours and you'll get a shot at that "someone else" in coming weeks.

Why was Brown in civies today?
I don't know, but he had a sorta-pissed-off-you-don't-know-what-you're-talking-about look in and out of the huddles. I'm on his side, whatever it is.
About David Brown- Robin said he rolled his ankle in practice yesterday...
We'll be expecting a lot out of Brown next season.

I noticed his limping slightly.

Probably ticked that the 4 minutes Poke played had his name on it. Poke acquitted himself well, I thought. But DB realized this was a missed opportunity.
GB, You connected in anyway with Tom Cook from the 70's???? I think he played during the Sonny Means era????? Had some great chuckles Thursday before the game at the Roadhouse. Cook was with an old footballer Sam Antinnoso--Spelling error on his name---It was like a trip down memory lane. What some of you guys have overlooked is the simple fact that we were picked 5th.??? at the start of the year. GB You are so right about the negative nancies on this board. I've long ago given up offering my coaching advise to the masses and am really just enjoying the effort these kids put out every week. Go Bronco's.... Oh, GB your not Gene Ford are you??????????????????
Sorry, it should have been coaching advice not advise!!!!!!!!!!

No on both questions but I do know Sonny's most athletic son and talked at length both his father in law and brother in law at half time.
