Wouldn't surprise me. Pelphrey is a good coach and he for certain would want the job. UAB pays more and is in a better league.
Same reasons Anderson would leave for Missouri, Pelphrey would leave USA for UAB. Better support, better pay, better conference, better history. Only thing UAB doesn't have better than USA is facility.

And given USA's basketball attendance as of late, they almost don't deserve it...the Mitchell Center is a very nice athletic crib.
The thing that you have to think about as well is the buy out for an existing HC.
Certainly it can't be much for Pelphrey, but still an added expense.
He had just signed an extension to his contract.
Pelphrey would definitely be a surprise at this point in the game.
His name will surface for other jobs.
