$2.13 million divided by 13 is $163,846 per team. And you can bet that the conference office skimmed some off the top before distributing it. Doesn't look like all that much when it gets put into those terms. It's a pittance and the MAC might even be able to make more if they dropped their affiliation with the BCS. The BCS is a gamble for the MAC. We gamble that we might one day make it like the MWC has, but in the process we're losing so much.
Huh? From what source would the MAC make more if they dropped out of the BCS? If MAC teams didn't play BCS teams, who would they play? Only FCS teams? Where is the money in that? I don't see the MAC abandoning big boy football anytime soon.

We would have to convince at least one other conference to jump with us, like the Sun Belt or C-USA. Then you set up a playoff system with them. It would generate money and interest that our current bowls don't provide. Sure, you can keep the bowls and have them along with the playoffs like it has been proposed many times on this board, but I think having a 4-team televised playoff with a true champion would generate enough money to make up for losing the small handout from the BCS.
how is bowl money distriubted/ paid for?
I must admit that I was also assuming that each conference would get an equal split of the remainder, but it might actually be split for each school. That would be more beneficial for the MAC schools since we have 13 football teams while C-USA and Sun Belt have 12 and 9 teams respectively.

So your solution is to have a separate playoff from a pool of 20 teams (which most likely 10 of the 20 consist of teams that are in the 20 worst teams in the country) to create more revenue? I know some of the MAC's bowls don't have the highest ratings, but this would tip the scales on the "Who gives a sh*t?" meter.
Why not extend this to basketball too since we don't do anything in the tourney either. We could refuse to send our conference champion to the NCAA tournament and instead send them to the CBI where they may actually win the tournament. That will show the silly NCAA/BCS!

IMO even if all 54 Non-AQ teams had a separate playoff, say matching the top eight teams. And assuming that Boise and TCU eventually
matched up in a Non-AQ championship game----its my opinion
that the Non-AQs would receive a lot less revenue and TV time, etc
than what was generated by BSU/TCU being in the BCS Fiesta Bowl.
I just don't think the Non-AQs as a group have the fan support,
TV ratings, sponsorships, etc... to even think about pulling out of the
BCS club.

So in other words form a new FCS division? no thanks.. If people will not tune in to watch the GMAC bowl they sure as hell wont tune in to wach the FCS+ semifinals...
