I have to admit, I don't know a heck of lot about playing defense or what makes a good defensive player. Not sure I would have ever noticed that John Fowler was a "great" defender if the coaches weren't telling us that all the time. I do know my wife was able to describe our defense as "pitiful" down in Florida, and she did that without reading message boards, articles in the paper, or listening to coach's shows. Must be pretty obvious.

Not sure exactly why our defense is so bad. Is it the size of our guards? Lack of inside presence? Lack of quickness? Players out of position? I don't really know. It appears the players are not doing what the coaches want, since I observed numerous tongue lashings during time outs.

Maybe they're asking them to do things they're not capable of doing. It's up to the coaches to design a defense as well as offense that takes into consideration the personnel. The reason we beat ULL is not that we were playing great 3 point defense, it's that they didn't have a good shooting night. They had plenty of open shots. In the games we're losing, the teams are hitting those open 3 point shots. Let's give credit to good shooting by other teams. The other thing is that when the other teams miss the 3 pointers, they're getting second chance points.
I read where Shields said that one of the Florida teams had sixteen offensive rebounds and a lot of second chance points. That's where your inside players have to keep you in the game. If you give up more than one shot, the chances are they're going to score on one of them.04-cheers

Mrs. MJS needs to be posting on the board. Looks like she has a handle on what's going on. My wife doesn't know or care the difference between and "inbound" and a "rebound". Some would probably say I don't either.04-cheers
