on bearcatlair front page in the committed players cody kater is now listed. Did i miss something, or when did he commit?
It came out today, for those who don't know this was CMU's best recruit and a guy many Bearcat fans(myself included) had there eye on. He's a dual threat QB that will probably be the #1 choice to take over at QB when Zach graduates.

It looks like it happened tonight. According to Kater, Butch called him at 6 AM the day he signed his contract. I'd rather have Black, but this is a nice pickup.

Kater told WZZM 13 Sunday night that he decommitted from his scholarship offer with Central Michigan and will play college football at Cincinnati under head coach Butch Jones.

Well I guess we now know why Luke Massa was very happy to hear from Brian Weis.
Central Michigan fans are pissed now. Butch is no longer the good guy they said he was when he left.

Kater to play for former coach Butch Jones

Montague, Mich. (WZZM) -Montague's All-State quarterback Cody Kater will not be a Chippewa next year after all.

Kater told WZZM 13 Sunday night that he decommitted from his scholarship offer with Central Michigan and will play college football at Cincinnati under head coach Butch Jones.

The two-time state champion QB committed to Central last summer while Jones was the head coach of the Chippewas. But earlier this month, Jones left CMU to take over for Brian Kelly at Cincinnati and he made a play to bring Kater too.

"The day he signed his contract (at Cincinnati) he called me at 6 AM," Kater said. "He told me that he wanted me there and he wanted me to go with him."

Cincinnati is coming off a 13-1 season in 2009 and earned a bid to the Orange Bowl.

The opportunity to play for a BCS conference school and a national championship was one he couldn't pass up.

"To go from a MAC school to the Big East school, you're fighting to get into the top 25 or fight to win a national championship," Kater said. "Of course, I'm a competitor and that's what I chose to do."

Kater led the Wildcats to its first state championships in the school's history in 2008 and 2009. He's the first Montague player to receive a scholarship to play Division I college football.

It sucks but thats the way it goes in recruiting. CMU is a fine school but would you rather play in the MAC or the Big East?

exactly.
Great news! Of all of CMU's commits this was the one I really wanted to steal...

I feel bad for saying it but if Dwight Macon found his way into the UC recruiting class I wouldn't be pissed.

Oh and according to this interview, it sounds like Kater will be welcomed with open arms in Clifton based on our mutual distaste for a certain coach up in Flint...

Dantonio is such a d-bag...
Q Which D-1 team would you like to beat when you are QB at CMU?

"I'd like to beat MSU, I had a bad experience there and I know that they could easily be on the schedule."

Kater-ade. Lol.

Your forgetting about Brandon Kay who I think will have a lot to say about who takes over for Zach

I didn't forget about Kay, and your right I shouldn't just write Kay off because he was thought of pretty highly coming out of Michigan a couple years ago. I just really like Kater's game. We'll see what happens.
Welcome aboard, Cody. Glad to have young men that want to be a part of what is building here.
I agree with UCbball21, this was the one guy i really wanted from the current commits to CMU. Although i hate the fact that we are poaching, this is part of the game. To get a recruit you have to poach from someone. Funny, i was on their board yesterday and someone was discussing a recruit who picked a lower school in the MAC. Asking why would you pick that school when you can be the class of MAC.... Nobody understands a recruit and why they make a particular choice. We lost Black, but we pulled in Kater. Would think DL is a higher need, but still a good pickup.
Kater's listed as 6'4". Is that accurate or inflated? A mobile QB with decent size makes me feel a little better.

His measurables are all accurate...I got a chance to see him while visiting family in Michigan last season. I was very impressed with his game. He was drwaing comparisons to Dan LaFevour in the CMU boards for good reason, he is extrememly mobile and has one hell of an arm. Probably more accurate a passer out of HS than Dan was, and just as good outside the pocket. Glad to have you Cody, can't wait to see how he turns out.
If it is wrong for Kelly to poach our recruits, it is wrong for Jones to do the same.
