For those who think any top tier FCS team could walk away with or even compete right away in the Sun Belt, I say simply: Western Kentucky.

And this is not intended as a slap to that school. It is improving and will compete eventually. But it's a big step up, especially after all the FCS team's I-A transfers leave.

Troy, FAU, and Middle Tennessee have all participated in Division 1 bowl games once/multiple times in the past three seasons.

Western had a good run in the early 2000s but were average in FCS when they left.

Top current FCS teams like Richmond, Villanova and App would immediately finish at or near the top of the SB.
Richmond, Nova, and App would all finish toward the bottom of the SBC, and very few wins 'cept against each other.

lol. Villanova finished 30th in the Sagarin ratings. They were a very good team. The highest SB team was MTSU at 63

Georgia Southern's time has come and gone. RIP Erk Russell.

I'd rather have Appalachian State. Boone >>>>> Statesboro

I don't think App is interested in the SB at all because of the geographic concerns. They seem to be content in the FCS, but if they did move up they want to wait for an atlantic coast type conference with teams such as Richmond, William and Mary, Delaware, Old Dominion and others.

Plus App would be the 6th FBS team in NC which doesn't have near the talent level as GA.

You can't compare two teams that compete in different leagues against a completely different set of teams. It would be like ranking the Japanese baseball teams with the MLB teams. Sagarin and other computer rankings are decent comparisons within a division, but not across them.

Nova, Montana, Richmond, App St. etc. would all suffer upon entering FBS. Marshall is the only one to come in with immediate success. They're the exception, not the rule and it was probably more telling of the level of play that the MAC had compared to 1-AA back then.

I will give you credit for trying hard to defend your position, but I will not give you any credit for making any sense.

Villanova beat the MAC runner ups and 9-3 bowl team on the road

William and Mary beat Virgina 26-14 on the road

Richmond beat Duke on the road

6-5 James Madison lost to Maryland 38-35 on the road

App State lost 29-24 to 9-4 bowl team ECU on the road without their all american QB Armanti Edwards who was out injured

03-zzz03-zzz03-zzz Hello.........we're not interested in who beat who, etc......just a bunch of talk that means absolutely nothing.03-puke it's a total waste of time to read this stuff your throwing out.03-banghead YOU BRING NOTHING TO THE TABLE THAT WE REALLY NEED OR THAT WOULD REALLY BENEFIT THE CONFERENCE........

LOL....this board is too funny......It definitely wins the award for most sensitive moderators. Anytime a FCS/new members discussion gets brought up it gets moved to the smack talk section.

I bring some much needed action to this board and have the most active threads and it gets moved to the smack talk graveyard.

Pretty funny that the most active all time thread was a GSU/App State package deal thread that was getting too many posts and had to be moved to the smack talk.

Oh shizzzzz......I just got a 50% warning level for this post in the smack talk section...my posts now have to be individually approved by burn the horse. Burn the Horse....I think you are great and Prattville is a wonderfull town with great HS football. Can you knock me down to a 30% warning level?

the problem is not the moderators. moderators respond to the opinions and requests of the members. the members are tired of your repetitive, pointless, and incredibly annoying rants on why Georgia Southern is so great and belongs in our Conference.

it's fine that you have an opinion, but what you are doing is the same as arguing with the customer...it gets you nowhere. if the customer doesn't want your product, you can't argue them in to agreeing with you.

your posts have become something like spam, and we don't allow spam on this board. every thread you create degenerates in to an arguement over the same thing and everyone here is tired of it. from this point on the moderator staff will be taking a much more active interest in what you are doing.

Sorry...I get the message and will try to fall in line.

I apologize and will try to post more pro SB information when I post a true fact that may not be viewed as promoting the SB.

For example, Instead of saying the top FCS teams could compete in the SB I will rephrase to say. " Jeff Sagarin is an idiot for ranking FCS teams above the SB. He should know that the gap between FCS and FBS is like FBS and the NFL. What an idiot!"
Have these teams compete against the FBS weekly, then tell me how it goes.

-ULM beat Alabama, I'm sure they could compete in the SEC.
-Troy beat Mizzou, mark them up for the Big 12.
-MT beat Maryland, twice, we're prime for the ACC.
-Ark St. lost by 3 to Iowa. That should translate to a domination of ACC champ Ga. Tech.
-Big 10 bound FAU beat Minnesota.
-The Big 12 is avoiding ULL now that they beat K State.

Do you want more examples of why one win doesn't relate to week-in and week-out success at a higher level?
I'm thinking if UALR, New Orleans, and Denver all left, any expansion needs to keep a clean split for divisions. This requires two eastern schools (i.e. Georgia State and Georgia Southern), or two western schools (i.e. Texas State and Missouri State).

1. Missouri State and Texas State
2. Missouri State and Southern Illinois
3. Texas State and Southern Illinois
4. Texas State and UTSA
5. Georgia State and Charlotte*
6. Georgia State and Georgia Southern*
7. Charlotte and Appalachian State*
8. Georgia Southern and Appalachian State*
9. Texas State and Lamar
10. UTSA and Lamar
11. Charlotte and Georgia Southern*
12. Georgia State and Appalachian State*
13. Texas State and Sam Houston State
14. UTSA and Sam Houston State
15. Sam Houston State and Lamar

*South Alabama and Troy move to the West Division
Too bad UT-Arlington doesn't have football.

UT-Arlington and UT-San Antonio would have been a good pair.
