For those who might be interested, Davis spent this past offseason at UAB. He was on campus working with CMA on trying to implement some of Anderson's style at Indiana. While I'm not sure he bought into "total commitment" to the program, I know he was very interested in how it worked. I wonder if this helps his candidacy?
Mike Davis just wants to be loved and appreciated. And patted on the back and given a pacifier every now and then.

Mike Davis is the 1st name on the list I guarantee you. Keeps UAB in the national spotlight and shows the program is serious about winning. Takes some of that mid-major perception away for the time being.

I think you're right. Mike Davis probably is at the top of the list, along with Scott Edgar. I think Davis did a good job at Indiana under definitely not the best circumstances. I don't really doubt his coaching, and I don't doubt his ability to recruit. I think sometimes he gets a little too emotional, and I'm not sure if thats what we need here. Maybe, the pressures of coaching at Indiana contributed to that.
Margison has already said that coaching the up tempo style is a must. Mike Davis will not be at the top of the list if on the list at all.

If, a Mike Davis is on the list. I think you have to take a look at him. I wouldn't necessarily call the style Davis runs a halfcourt style. I think sometimes we think the style put more fans in the Bartow Arena seats. The style had a lot to do with it, but in the end its winning! I seriously doubt if UAB would have the rise in attendance it had, if we were going 17-15 and going to the NIT the last 3 years. I think we should hire the best coach possible. No matter what the style. It may hurt for a year or two. Current players leaving, recruits leaving etc. But in the long run it should be fine.
Davis might be on the list but I'm pretty sure he isn't on the top of that list.

I have been wrong before though...... 03-weeping
I'll puke in my hat if UAB hires Davis. I don't see it happening. Where's the excitement? I'd take Brady or Edgar over Davis any day of the week.

The excitement is in WINNING... Remember, the guy does know how to get the job done.....I would rather will 30 games scoring in the 50s than win 17 scoring in the 70,80, or 90s...

Did Davis play at UA prior to Gottfried?
Davis graduated two years prior ...

Davis never graduated from AL.

Did he graduate? If not, how is he a coach? Someone said yesterday that you had to have a degree to coach.
Where are the two UAB-Indiana fans we have that post here... I'd be curious to see their opinions on all this.

He didn't graduate from AL, but he did received a degree in either '95 or '96. I forgot the name of the school.

Had Mike Anderson stayed at UAB that bio might well have become his.

I question the use of the term legendary, not in reference to Bob Knight but C.M. Newton and Wimp?

"In his first season, he played for the legendary C.M. Newton and then spent his final three years playing under another coaching legend, Wimp Sanderson"
I could live with Davis but he's not my first choice. He's got more "name value" but he coaches ugly basketball.
the question i still have is would a UA guy want to come to UAB? i mean, we know how some UA fans feel about UAB, but we know all of them don't share those views.
I think some of our football staff has ties to T-Town. If not now there has been in the past.

Woah, dude. No one in the world can be accused of coaching ugly basketball while Brad Soderberg is still alive. *shiver*

Well, I know you're referring to that Hoosier UAB guy, but I'll chime in... I went to grad school through IU/USI, and those were some darn rabbid BBall fans. Both my parents are Hoosiers, and their flippin favorite movie is Hoosiers. Now, I posted earlier on another string about Davis, but I'll say it again. Mike D walked into arguably some of the largest BBall shoes to fill. Although he left under some cloudy circumstances, Bobby Knight didn't leave because the majority of IU fans wanted him to leave... He was ousted by the admin who absolutely HATED HIM and everything he was about. Love him or hate him though, Mike Davis had the very distasteful job of entering into that situation. I think given all the crap he went through, I think he did a fair to good job. I also think he could fit into UAB well because of his being a hometown guy. Do I like his style... I think he understands the game well, and he adapted his style to typical Big 10/Princeton style ball... Pass the ball multiple times, move your offensive sets around to set up mismatches and strike. If the mismatch doesn't open up, strike with the jumpshot. That's their style. I think he could adapt to also fit the style of players he has as well. He did that this year pretty well when he had to change his offensive style when he lost good players to injury. Whiney or not... We could do much worse! 05-stirthepot
