STATESBORO, Ga. -- The NCAA has placed the Georgia Southern men's basketball program on probation for two years after finding "major" academic violations.

The NCAA said Wednesday an unnamed former assistant coach provided course work and in some cases completed the work for the two players from 2007-08.

Georgia Southern must vacate all wins in which the two players competed during the two seasons. The school loses one scholarship for three years.

Former coach Jeff Price resigned on March 30, shortly before athletic director Sam Baker announced the program was being investigated by the NCAA.
I wonder if this means they'll be ineligible for the NCAA tournament too? GSU is a mess, they just aren't as competitive anymore, both in football and basketball. I think it's great though, I never did like them.....
GSU recently hired an long-time assistant of Paul Johnson off his Georgia Tech staff, who won several DI-AA championships while in Statesboro, before moving on to Navy and now Georgia Tech. So it looks like the wing-bone (triple-option) will be returning to GSU.
The folks in Statesboro make football and baseball their focal points.
Man, do I miss ETSU playing football in the SoCon.
