The Akron Beacon Journal had a nice article about how attendance was up a bit and revenue was way up for Akron this year.

In a time where people are worrying about football losing money, it's nice to see a MAC team getting a boost.

400K --> 2M is nice. 2M in home gate + road guarantees = some nice bucks 04-cheers

"This year's high school schedule included two postseason games for the Ohio High School Athletic Association, a number Hammond hopes to hike in coming years. He said the university will bid for the high school championship contract that begins in 2012."

This could be big for Akron, namely, have more playoff games at their stadium. Schools want high school playoff teams playing in their stadia for obvious reasons.

I believe I saw part of one game on DirecTV.

Gate, concessions, high scool games, etc. every thing helps.
Infocission places Akron up near the top in revenues up with Toledo and Bowling Green after just one season.

They have a chance to have the #1 position if they can put a winning team in the stadium.

Akron for its first 10 years in the MAC lagged the conference significantly in both budget and facilities. Now neither is the case.
BTW, maybe someone from the state of Ohio can indicate where the Ohio h.s. playoff games are played?

I assumed that most of the semis, finals, etc. are at Fawcett Stadium in Canton. Correct?

Where are their regional playoff games?

(for those curious, in MI the finals are played at Ford Field over Thanksgiving weekend).

The finals are split between Massilon's Paul Brown Stadium and Canton McKinley's Fawcett Stadium. Three games on Friday and three on Saturday, alternating stadiums each game. The stadiums are about 25 minutes apart, so it's pretty easy to see all three games in a given day.

Canton's economy blows, so having those games in Canton is important. It drives a decent amount of hotel and restaurant business. I'd hate to see it leave. Especially for somewhere like Columbus, where they don't really need it.

If Akron got it, I'd have mixed feelings. But I'd take it.

The finals are held at Canton Fawcett and Massilon Paul Brown Stadium. The rounds leading up to it are neutral site games, usually in between the 2 schools.
