This program will take a big step backwards. This program has made so much progress in the last several years. We are somewhat of a household name in basketball right now. We have a growing fan base, though very fragile, IMO. It would behoove the administration not to take the easy rode on this and hire someone with little or not reputation. I can almost guarantee a big decline in program support if they screw this up.

An unknown assistant won't cut it. A coach with one year of success at a Mid Major or below won't cut it. They have to go as big as they can possibly go. It would be a shame to totally squander the goodwill and hardwork of the last few years with a crappy, cost cut hire.

I agree. If we get a big "name" coach and he flops, then so be it. But it's almost SURE to be a flop with a mid-major level coach or assistant coach. Even if they're good. We're trying to continue something here. If we're starting from the ground up (as we did with CMA), it's fine to take a risk on an unproven guy. But at this point, I think we need a proven, high-major coach if possible to continue building on what we have going.

A good 1st effort needs to be put into the buyout clause on the contract.

Making a statement that we will not let this happen again this easily is important.

It would also be nice to see UAB pony up enough cash to where even CMA would look at the $$$$$$$$$ and say "Damn, I didn't know I could get that there", "They have really gone BIG TIME"!
