defeated North Carolina Monday night in overtime 82-79.

An even more unbelievable feat was that the College was able to get the Heels to play in Charleston. It was only a 2 for 1 deal.
You beat me to it! Way to go CofC!
I know UNC was missing two starters.

But Len Elmore had something to say after the game that hit home. It was that UNC still had all the McDonalds All Americans. You'd think they'd have ample subs.

It was also C of C's third victory against UNC since 1998.

Now, if there is something l'd like ETSU fans to take from this it is that YOU CAN WIN BIG GAMES AS A MID-MAJOR!

Win enough of 'em, and you ain't a Mid-Major no more!
Amen to Pittsburgh's post! That's the road we dream to travel!
I have family and friends in Charleston..and they are celebrating today..
but, in recent years they have not been happy with the program, the coaches, etc.. simply because it's been over a decade since they went to the NCAA tourney..a few years ago they won the Alaskan shootout and got rated in the top 25.. and could not make it to the big dance..
might have been the Bucs who beat em out that year, I don't remember.
They build a new building and hire a former national coach of the year..
and still no invite..They really need to get there this year to get all the
bitching about the program stopped.
WCU will have the College at Cullowee later this month. This would be
a fun game to go see.

Western is starting to draw some fans since they are winning this year.
They had 1500 for a home conference game with Wofford.. and
2700 for a home game with Campbell..They beat Campbell by 7
That says to me that Campbell would probably beat them at Campbell
Two good mid major teams..

I have been to games at Western in years past when ETSU was there,
and without the Buc fans, the place would have been EMPTY!
Yeah it's been empty every time I've been there. I wonder what that place would be like when it was rockin'. I'm sure the CofC game will be a good environment.

Western Carolina is one of those programs who gets a very talented team every fifteen years or so. The Last good team Western had, that I can remember, was during the Robbert Dogget/Tony Patterson era. Although they were far from the best the SoCon had to offer then....they were pretty good. And they beat a very talented yet very selfish/lazy etsu team during the first game of the tournament.

Before that...you'd probably have to go back before I was born to find a good Western team and this was probably the best Western team of all time. They were led by a guy named Carr (i think).
Ronnie Carr..early 80's
Western has a nice facility, but the problem is they are truly out in the middle of nowhere. They do get some Asheville media, but in reality they are 47 miles from Asheville.

I love the mid-majors and the SoCon and all of that, but unless you're winning big, it simply isn't possible to draw big when your hometown has 2,500 people and there are no other towns around for miles.

I remember sitting at games at Western and thinking to myself how could we move this arena to Johnson City. I really think that size arena would be a perfect fit for us.
I have always liked Western's arena but I still think ETSU and the Tri-Cities should have something slightly bigger, such as the roundhouse or Kaplan Arena (where William & Mary plays) or something in between those two.

Western Carolina looks like every other arena being built today. The basic design is this...take a real stadium...chop it apart at the knee's and there you have it. It's just unimpressive. Especially when you walk into the place and there is nothing above your eye-level. It's not interesting.

I wish we had some architects on this board who understood design concept.
I didn[t think Western carolina had ever been to the NCAA tourney..but
I looked it up, and they have been once. It would be great to see them go this year..
