Texas Tech HF coach Mike Leach was fired today, as per Rivals.com
That's an interesting thing going on in Lubbock. That was a quick firing.
There was more to him being fired than just this incident.

Coming to a Sun Belt school after next season? Or is he so much damaged goods that even a Sun Belt program that hasn't won for a good while won't touch him?

I think a Sun Belt school would kill to have him.
I don't think he's "damaged" at all. Therefore, I don't see an SBC school being able to afford him.
dumbest move of the year. i hope Texas Tech loses every game they play from here on out. Best of luck to you Mike!

Per ESPN last night:

Today is December 30 and he would have received an $800K bonus if he was still the coach on December 31.

Now all TT has to do is pay him $400K for each of the remaining two years on his contract.

Completely agree. Mike Leach was treated unfairly in this incident and whoever picks this guy up is making a very smart move.

I agree to an extent. He's a strange cat and I don't think he'd be a good fit just anywhere.

TF and ML are the same type coaches...crazy like a fox...04-cheers
There are several sites that have emails from current/former players as well as current/former coaches that have nothing but bad things to say about Adam James (the player). Apparently, a kid with mediocre talent and an even worse work ethic and an over-inflated sense of worth. Don't know where he could have gotten that from.....his dad (Craig James)?!
It is a huge mess. Over on TTU scout site, people are showing some players and their facebook updates talking about how they were glad he was fired and stuff like that.

I would be embarrassed if I were a TTU fan today...

I think TT was looking to dump him/money for some reason. I wonder if there is some personal bad blood.

Reading the back story, none of the coaches wanted this kid. He had no offers and Craig James took films and met with Leach. Leach offered him over the objections of his other coaches. Bet he wishes now he would have listened.

So Adam James helps destroy a coach. I still wonder how much money he dad made while playing at SMU.

Firing him "with cause" allows them to not owe him a dime.

If he wins a legal battle, $400K isn't even the most they'd owe. I'd think if he can also get some of that $800K for the nature of the situation.
i hope he sues Tech and wins. give the man a few million for unjustly dragging his name through the mud. TT's treatment of Leach could hurt his chances of landing another job. it was unfair and cowardly. i also think that some sort of lawsuit should be brought against espn's Craig James for defamation of character. he used his position with the network to attack Coach Leach. i believe he did this because he was angry about his son's lack of playing time. i think it was a personal vendetta type situation.

just my opinions, but i'm sure i'm not alone.

Nope, you are not alone. I fully believe that there was bad blood between TTU and Leach somehow and they felt this story was the best way to get him fired and not have to pay him anything.
I'm not gonna say that I completely agree with Leach until all the facts are out there, but for the most part, I think the fans sound right. I mean, really, a roughly 20 year old peak shape athlete gets locked into an electrical closet by this guy!?!?!?!

I'm not saying its not possible, but with all the other players, assistant coaches, graduate assistants, media, and trainers around, no one would have said anything except for this kid? 2+2 is not making 4, and I think the facts will bear this out in court. As for Leach's future, I have no doubt that he'll land somewhere nice soon, heck he may even take a pay cut due to the fact that he very well could get a huge settlement out of this case.

I couldn't see him getting more than $1.5 million out of this. $400K/yr. for 4 more seasons and possibly a portion of the $800K bonus. That's enough for me to take a pay-cut, but I doubt it's enough for a high profile FB coach. He wasn't getting paid that much either ($12.7 mil over 5 years with 4 years left).

He was fired for cause, he refused to sign a new policy on how to treat student athletes. So when he said he didn't and wouldn't be second guessed by the admin, he sealed his fate. So he stuck to his guns and smoked. All he had to do was apologize to the james family and sign the ne policy and he would've keep his job. It's shows he has very bad judgement.
