Temple wins 63-39

Might have helped BG RPI?
Another great win and showing. I haven't seen Temple play this good of defense in 10+ years. Hopefully we stay focused on NIU before Kansas comes calling on Saturday. This is a great start to what could be an unbelievable week on N. Broad.

Yes, very exciting time for the Sixth All Time Winningest program in NCAA history... last time I checked our RPI was 3.

It's nice to share five games a year with our MAC Brethren

All time NCAA
Interesting that Villanova, Penn, and Temple have almost identical winning percentages.

Not that Bowling Green is an offensive atomic bomb waiting to explode, but that is quite a claim. I remember those Chaney zones with long athletic guards being tough for so many teams. I watched Temple's game against Siena and came away impressed with the way they came back. That Fernandez kid is something else.
Actually, I'm more interested in the John Chaney vs. Dick Chaney press conference after the game. Any video?

I was shocked at the halftime score when I heard it. 13 points for BG?? Yikes. Has a team in Div 1 b-ball ever been shut out for the first half of a game? You have a shot of making it happen against us. I think your backup players could play the entire game blindfolded and still win by at least 10 but probably 20. 03-banghead

Will you still feel the same way after your RPI drops after breating us by 40 points?

One hand washes the other: you compromise your basketball strength to help your weakness. It's been very good for football, and it ultimately hasn't hurt basketball. Losing RPI spots has been irrelevant for Temple in this time period.

Of course, it hasn't helped the MAC at all because no one has benefitted. Had Miami and Buffalo been better last year, their Temple wins might have given them a meaningful RPI boost, but when you RPI is not top 50, and you are not in the at-large range, it makes no difference.

The closest I ever saw was a CMU-Akron game in the early 90's, when the halftime score was -- I 01-rivals you not! -- CMU 9, Akron 6. :domokun:

I only listened to it on the radio. It must have been downright brutal to watch.

Yea, you are right, had to make that deal to stay afloat... but would be nice if we only had to play maybe 3 Mac games and free up a couple of OOC spots... 04-cheers
NIU beat Akron one year 45-30.
That was when we played great defense.
I believe we made the Tournament that year.
If you play defense you always have a shot at winning the game.
Maybe when people will realize their own RPI is irrelevant this talk will cease.
