Full Version: SBC RPI Poor As OOC Ends

As the new year approaches and pretty much all non-conference play ends, the Sun Belt is not doing so well in the RPI. Out of the 32 Divison I Conferences, the SBC ranks #20. Therefore, we are almost guaranteed to be a one bid league yet again this year. The good news for the Trojans is that in such a down year, we might have a chance to make a run in conference and get into some sort of post season play.

The top 10 RPI Conferences are:

1. Big East
2. Big 12
3. ACC
4. Atlantic 10
5. SEC
6. Pac 10
7. Big 10
8. MWC
9. Colonial
10. MVC

The conferences right around the SBC are:

16. Metro Atlantic
17. Big Sky
18. Southern
19. Ivy
20. Sun Belt
21. Big West
22. OVC
23. Summit
24. Big South
When Ivy and Southern are ahead of you, that ain't good.

+1
hmmmmm......
I have no way of knowing, but I doubt it. I would guess the TAAC was in the 25-30 range.

I will have to disagree with you on at least part of your statement. The Southern Conference is traditionally a pretty good basketball league with the likes of College of Charleston and Davidson. Not that the Southern is better than the SBC, but the two conferences are at about the same level.

The Ivy League, with its incredibly high academic standards, will always have a difficult time staying even with conferences whose academic standards are minimal (which covers a large majority of the rest). Once in a while though, the Ivy comes up with a contender. Cornell is that team this year. Cornell has already won @ Alabama, @ UMASS, @ St. Johns, @ Drexel, @ Bucknell, with additional wins over St. Joseph's and Davidson. I'd take that record in a heartbeat for the Trojans.

I agree, the Southern and the Sun Belt are pretty comparable conferences. The Atlantic Sun (i.e. TAAC) is obviously not in the top 25 conference so it's a good bit behind, even a weak Sun Belt.

Must have been the Big South I was thinking of. That is what I get for posting at home without my stats handy.

And Cornell is indeed tough this year.

It is pretty sad being ranked behind a league which doesn't even give athletic scholarships.03-banghead

Sometimes general smarts, and certainly basketball smarts, can carry a team a long way.
