Same situation here--my mother married my dad in 1930. Within three weeks, my grandfather received a letter from the Board of the B'ham Country Club telling him he could not leave his membership to his only son. He resigned his membership immediately. My mother's brother-in-law was Abe Goldstein, a fairly well known B'ham City Police Detective. Her nephew, Alan Sherman, is best known for writing "Letter from Camp"(usually called "Hello Muther, Hello Father"). Alan's father and mother (whose maiden name he used as his professional name) owned The Ice cave Tavern in the Pinson area (as I recall) where he (Percy Coplon) died while dieting while living in a little house mounted on a pole behind the tavern. The story was covered by the NEWS and other local papers for several weeks.
