Since we have entered a dead time for recruiting here is ESPN's analysis of MAC football recruiting so far:

http://insider.espn.go.com/ncf/recruitin...son%3d2010

I did notice they missed two EMU recruits. J. Erbes an offensive lineman from Ohio and Maurice Davenport a Southfield MI linebacker.
So can anyone explain how a MAC team (OU) gets a guy named OMAR Freakin' LEFTWICH and he's NOT a QB?

Could it have anything to do with their reputation as a party school? Just wondering.
It looks like some teams are having a good year...Toledo, Temple, BG, Miami, Akron, Ball St
Bernard Piece wasn't evaluated, so I cant take these terribly seriously.

Don't leave out Buffalo numbers might be small but this is a lite scholarship year for the Bulls.

EMU has three very good prospects who are sitting out which would put EMU near the top of the recruiting class before new recruits are tallied.

DB Thomas - transfer from L'ville reported to be a star from his sitout year.

LB Moffitt - a sitout who was very, very highly rated MLB from Chicago. Maybe as high as any EMU recruit in many years.

RB Ben Axon - a sitout RB from down south who I believe had committed initially to Clemson.

Curious if EMU has any mid-year surprises either JUCO, transfers, etc.

Steve is Moffitt academically eligible yet?

I presume we will not know that until Spring (semester is over) but I'll try to get some information if I can.

If he is a prop, then he'd have to do an academic year to be eligible.

Not only are we getting Omar, but also his twin brother, Octavius...both are defensive backs. Both were recruited out of high school by Ohio but didn't meet eligibility requirements.

04-rock
AS well as Temple has done in these rankings... our best players have all been pretty much 1 or two stars... So I have joined the chorus that these rankings especially for the MAC are very subjective and almost worthless.
ESPN's list isn't complete for Akron.

I also agree that the rankings aren't very accurate once you get beyond the top players and teams. But if you compare ESPN, Rivals, and Scout, you can come up with a pretty good feeling of which recruits are supposed to be good.

Yea, Generally its nice to look at who else is recruiting them, not just the names..
Bull in exile,

I know a number of EMU fans use the number of Div I offers a kid receives a barometer. But if the kid commits early they may not have received that many Div I offers so is that a true comparison?

I like ESPN's rating system. Rivals often gives MAC recruits NR and then on signing day assigns them two stars. Scout gives a national ranking by position that is nice as does ESPN. I look at a 40 on the ESPN scale and to me it equates with a Rivals two star or a Scout one star.

EMU just got a verbal from Maine Central IL QB Tyler Benz 6'3, 220 pounds whose team was ranked in the top 10 by ESPN.

Its not the numbers its the university. If MSU offers someone chances are they are a solid ***...

Why? (wasn't he evaluated).
While looking at who else offered the kid can be a good sign, it's sad that even some teams look at the rankings to decide who they are going to offer. Rutgers is notorious on offering people based on their rivals ratings.

Not sure. They simply just neglect to evaluate many, many players.
