The advantage that the Valley has is that basketball is king. They have the facilities, the financial commitment to pay coaches and the results speak for themself.
I would debate the point the Valley is significantly better. Top to bottom yes, for the above stated points. Top teams year in and year out? I think the MAC can hold it's own. Of course there are exceptions.
SIU seems to be in a downspin. A couple years without the usual Dance ticket.
Recruiting (getting lucky) is so critical. Making $500K more than a MAC coach doesnt equate into getting better talent, just greater financial security.
But the likes of Altman at Creighton and the former Winthrop coach at W. State are for real.
