5 years of big time football down the drain.
Quote:Marshall better be worried about positioning itself for the sunbelt..not the big east

Sorry SBC fans, you shouldn't be associated with the ugliness that is Marshall.
My ears are still ringing from those predictions of a need to expand "The Joan" to 55k by the time 5 years in the hugely popular CUSA has come to past....

Marshall had its best CUSA year ever, and its attendance average this year was lower than anything they've ever recorded since moving up to FBS with the MAC.

In hindsight, the MAC dropped them at the right time. Dump a loser and get $400K for doing it.

Who else do we see from Herd Country regularly lower themselves to the depths of indecency when posting? Not a classy group of posters for Marshall. They thought the problem was MAC fans. CUSA fans are saying the same thing.

Per Sports Illustrated conference-wide survey, C-USA fans - by a wide margin - said Marshall has the most polite fans and is tied with the Liberty Bowl for favorite stadium to visit.

Looking forward to dusting the bell off and ringing it again next week...

yeah........ who was high when they came up with that one??? They must have not batteries thrown at them or beer. 05-stirthepot
The way I see it, the Herd faithful are mostly happy in C-USA, despite it's "far flung" geography. But many of the things that their posters predicted obviously did not come true, those being: 1) greater home attendance due to more interest in C-USA rivals; 2) more "traveling" fans from C-USA schools.......that never happened outside of maybe ECU. The other claims were that revenues would be higher (they are), but I sense that expenses for travel and other considerations (i.e. lower attendance, etc.) have offset much of that gain. Still, all things considered when I read the Herd message boards I don't see a lot of sentiment that expresses regret over their decision to bolt from the MAC. So, let's let "bygones be bygones", but it would be awfully nice to see OU whip the Herd in Detroit!
Who's Marshall?

From a fan of a program that got kicked out of the BCS. Priceless.

Or maybe they've actually been to Huntington for a game.

I miss some of the easy road trips that allowed me to see my team more than I do now. Otherwise, I'm pretty happy with C-USA. I was never anti-MAC. I like the MAC. I just like where we are now better.
Positives for Marshall being in CUSA Football:
1) Several of the teams they play are within their recruiting footprint.
2) Many CUSA teams are traditionally more highly regarded nationally than those in the MAC.
3) Some (not all) CUSA have good attendance.
4) CUSA doesn't have to play as many midweek games to get on national TV.
5) Gross revenue is up.

Negatives (or Neutrals) for Marshall being in CUSA Football:
1) The bowl opportunities haven't come to fruition. In fact, this year Marshall is an at-large team and would have been bowl bound regardless of league affiliation.
2) This year's bowl game is against, drum-roll please, against one of their MAC ex-brethen.
3) Most of the league games require much more extensive travel for the team and its fans.
4) Net revenue probably isn't that great. Are there any hard numbers out there? (Pre-MAC vs Post-MAC).

2002 MAC Title game, where a phantom pass interference cost on a 4th down cost Toledo another MAC Title. All while the Toledo fans had to deal with snowballs stuffed with batteries being chucked their way by the great Marshall fan. Sorry Buddy, you fans aren't that great.

In fairness CUSA has never seen Marshall in a title game.

That's whose sloppy seconds you're enjoying in the MAC.
