But I'll keep it to 100.

Thanks again Daddy Wolf for the great pics.

I watched about 40% of the game and listened to about 30%.

Looking at the pics though in isolation can tell us something and reinforces a couple conclusions I've drawn.

First, Alex is a handsome dude and from what I hear a great student and kid. But my girls are all spoken for.

Listening to Kendall Gill a 12+ year NBA guy and former Illini commented on how he liked Flen's and Spartacus's aggressiveness. Attack the rack!

The pic that shows Demetrius (Spartacus) splitting Frick and Frack as he gets hacked twice by Frack is a case in point. Foul on the big dude! Go at him and make him stop you. Don't stop yourself.

I would like to see many more minutes for Spartacus! He can't shoot straight? Well there is only one ball and 5 kids. The pic shows him working to get an AND1. All good. Not to mention 8 minutes, 4 rebounds and 3 assists at EIU. He bodies up on D and takes no slack. He needs to get 30 minutes a game (I laid it out earlier).

Pic of Hutch jumping to balance. Point: all athletes do it. I underscore athletes. I know he has experiential limitations. He did look lost for a few moments on D early on (Again, I only watched about 30% so maybe he was not only looking lost but was lost for an uncomfortable amount of time). But the kid has some ball handling skills, can rise up and can attack the rim. Continue to get his head on straight defensively and he will pay dividends down the road. And I don't just mean next year.

Two pics of our bigs getting their shots blocked. Flen by Davis and Donald by Frack. I admire both's attacking the hole. But I have made this point adnausem and I will until I see a change. I am not a big fan of the jump hook. Yes, it has it's place. It can be treated two ways: a skilled "touch" shot or a bail out by a big.

The pics are exactly what I have discussed in the past about playing BCS powers. They are longer, quicker and generally going to make you hurry your shots (pull the string or throw up a brick bat).

Now I know Flen played well. In fact, very well. He is admittedly the more skilled between himself and DL. But if both are going to be forces in the paint and against the likes of Frack and Swat (Davis) you can't just play a vertical game. Again, BCS is longer and generally quicker.

So how do you combat that? You add horizontal movement to your vertical plane.

Look at the pics.

First Flen.

In the background up toward the ceiling you see two arches that support it. In the pic Flen's body is between the two arches.

The result of his proper execution of the jump hook puts the ball leaving his shooting hand in front of his body plane. (Nothing wrong with that) However, if he had shot a running hook the ball would likely be blocking a part of the view of the arch on the right. Putting the ball Flen's full body width further away from the defender. Additionally, running hooks by their motion (a small tight wind up) provides a much more arching trajectory on the shot (both softening the touch and adding heigth to the shot). Finally a running hook is shot off one foot, running as in a layup. You naturally can reach higher in doing so adding more heigth to the ball before release.
1. Body width
2. Higher and softer trajectory
3. Higher release point

Either Swat doesn't get the leather or he has to go through Flen's body to do so. Result is no block (but attempted therefore out of position), a possible defensive foul on the down swing and a clean release with a soft touch.

DL's pic shows he is jumping off of both feet. To do so your feet must be close to one another. Hence, little or no horizontal distancing. It is a race to the top floor. The one that can get the highest floor (altitude) usually wins. If DL had taken a long stride (horizontal movement) and added the additional lift of jumping off one foot, Frack would have likely wiffed. Now since DL is shooting it there is no great certainity that it would have gone down. But Frack wouldnt have blocked it. DL would have gained an added level of "touch" and Frack in a vain attempt to block the shot likely would have raked DL across the mug (See the pile driver he gave Spartacus in earlier pic). AND1!

Now, against MAC foes this will likely work but when you go against the BCS types they can counter for the reasons stated.

I love the guys attacking the hoop. But at this level you need to "cheat" to get the edge. I just described how to do it inside.

Later pics:

Fearless Flen getting hacked by Frack again.

Two Spartacus pics attacking. One drawing contact AND1.

Hutch a lil out of control, but attacking. He'll learn.

DB after a steal laying it in.

Pokely attacking. Yeah, I know he'll be joining me as frat bro in the "Time us with a sundial" but he's not settling.

Shayne - get used to it. Two guys your size and they arent even starters. Both will at U Arena next year. Let's start making plans on how to payback.

Eddie. I liked your giddy up in the last 2 minutes. Showed me a motor at high rpms. Gotta love it.
Gill was the best all around player in NBA Jam TE arcade edition.

Alex's chest tatt is whack.

But nice kid and nice photos.
