Just saw it in the Freepress. http://www.freep.com/article/20091210/SP...h-Marshall

I don't know if it is old news yet, or how relevant it may be. Not really much of a jump if he got the job. On the other hand it is his way out of CMU, much as a poor child would look for a way out of the projects.

but yes I would agree with you...actually, it's probably a step back to go to Marshall
Not in terms of salary it's not.
His wife loved West Virginia

true...

89 Mark Snyder Marshall C-USA $500,000
107 Butch Jones Central Michigan MAC $275,000

but in terms of the current state of the program, staying at Central would be the better option. assuming of course, that Heeke is working on raising his salary $$
Does Marshall have a trailer park next to their stadium?

Here's something I found that really doesn't deserve it's own thread...

This does not have marshall as that big of a jump.

According to his contract Jones could make more at CMU
If Butch wishes to move up (I assume he does), just talking to Marshall is a means to use leverage to try and pry a little more $$ out of CMU. In my mind, he would be foolish to leave the top program in the MAC for a non-BCS job. It would take him several years at best to build a program at Marshall - that's assuming he CAN build it. He stepped into a good situation at CMU, has been the beneficiary of some great BK recruits (LeFevour, Anderson), brought in a difference maker (Brown) and CMU's profile has risen while he was at the helm.

I may not like the guy but he's been successful. These rumors, if there is any truth to them (and IF Jones is serious about Marshall) suggest one of two things to me:

1) Losing several big contributors after this year, Jones may be worried about the near future and the time to jump ship may be now, before CMU loses its' dominant status. But why Marshall? A lateral move, IMO with a little higher salary but dubious upside in CUSA.

2) Maybe he is looking for a challenge - BUILDING a winner is not on his resume. Perhaps he knows that numerous BCS schools with atrocious football programs are looking for a proven builder. Butch was a caretaker at CMU. Kelly built it, Jones continued it at a high level.

I suspect that as the coaching carosel revs up to a higher level in coming weeks, his name will be out there. I do believe I saw his name connected to the Kansas job, should it not go to Gill.
I believe he is gone and I believed that if the season went well he would be gone. It is about one thing and one thing only $$$$$$. I guess only time will tell.
I agree that he is gone. Gotta think he will get a chance at a bottom tier BCS school. ESPN is throwing his name out as a possible replacement for Kelly at Cinn.

Not bad, not bad at all. Salary is smoking WMU.
It that gets approved, it sets a great precedent with the budget and the state. Serious. Be good to see that translate into some strong assistant coaching salaries as well. For everyone in the MAC.

interesting...I don't see how Butch can turn that down to leave town...good for CMU
If Butch has ANY aspirations at all I don't see how he can stay. His star will likely never be brighter. No matter what Central throws at him money wise he has to take a step up in competition or possibly forefit his best chance.
Turner Gill (Buffalo) took Kansas job last night.

While I'm sure he would like a step up in both prestige and pay, $400,000 isn't bad money for Mount Pleasant, Michigan. If he were still at Central five years from now he still would be sitting pretty for that kind of coinage.

The guy is originally from Big Rapids, Michigan. I don't believe any of the talk that he is unhappy where he is at geographically. The Marshall interview was to get Central to open their purse strings, I don't see Jones going anywhere this season although Cincy will probably give him a look.
