In order to have full disclosure, I will admit that I am not a fan of any of the MAC schools. I was talking to a buddy today though and we were talking conference expansion... He thinks that the MAC could/should expand, however I am not so sure.

Since i'm not up on all things MAC, I am wondering if someone here could fill in the blanks regarding the current conference and whether expansion has been discussed lately

I think that's the first time it's been brought up. I doubt anyone has given it much thought.
The National Weather Service has just issued an Airport KC Watch for the thread, in effect until Noon.

:)
The big problem is that Texas would most likely want to bring A & M with them, which wouldn't solve the unbalanced division problem.

Agreed. I look forward to the fascinating scenarios that will be proposed.

In fact, let me be the first. I believe the MAC presidents should vote on extending an invitation to Notre Dame. They would balance the conference to 14 teams, and they're already in the MAC footprint.

And to paraphrase Schadenfreud, Marshall football got well in the MAC, Temple football got well in the MAC...Notre Dame football could get well in the MAC.

Drew clearly doesn't understand that conference realignment and expansion threads are the sole provinde of Airport KC.
Seriously though, the MAC needs to do something about the unbalanced football divisions. Is the league office even looking at any institutions? Usually you hear a "leak" about something, but I haven't seen jack lately.

Jack is Off today.

Clearly I do not understand what you are talking about... Airport KC? What!?!

My friends point was talking specifically about the unbalanced divisions in football.

I am guessing that the golden domers would not go to the mac... although, if they did that would be great for the conference RPI.

The MAC needs to shrink, not become even more bloated.
MAC people get sick of expansion talk like everyone else. I don't even read ACC expansion talk, it's ridiculous, but since the MAC is unbalanced, it makes sense.

To talk about your question, the MAC would invite a football-only member, because Temple is not going to join as a full member, and that preserves the number of all-sports schools at an even twelve.

History shows the options for a MAC football-only invite are schools located outside of the MAC footprint: Temple and UCF. Temple helps MAC basketball by throwing some basketball games their way. I think UMass could pursue the same deal. I think a CAA school like Delaware or James Madison would have a harder time than an A10 school due to the CAA actually sponsoring football. There is a risk the CAA would ask that member to cordially leave, awkwardly forcing the MAC to thirteen all-sports members and Temple.
I think the MAC should invite the whole of the FCS and Mount Union giving us 158 members. Which we could then split nto 16 sub conferences and at the end of each year we can have a true 16 team playoff to decide the mac champion who would then go on to play in a bowl game.

I'm not sure. He's listed as rooting for NDSU, which I would assume stands for North Dakota State University. I believe there is talk up there of jumping to the FCS level.

Quite frankly, some of the "Dakota's" schools have been mentioned among our endless expansions threads before. I think the consensus has been that the Dakotas are a little too far out of the footprint......but I could be wrong. I guess if UMass is considered close enough, then the Dakotas would be "close enough". Schools in the Dakotas don't add much in the way of "TV Viewers".

I'm certainly not a troll. I'm just looking for information on the MAC. Yes, I am a fan of North Dakota State University and there has been some talk of moving to the FBS for football however as of now it's kind of a pipe dream. Currently NDSU and South Dakota State play in the football only Missouri Valley Football Conference. THe rest of the sports are affiliated with the Summit League which has a footprint that is all over the map.
Illinois State, Southern Illinois or bust.

Or University of Puerto Rico and the University of the Virgin Islands.

Frankly, I'm torn. Perhaps we just add all four of them and we are that much closer to the MAC goal of a 20 school league?

I'm all for it! Lets get us some Southern Universities so we can all make a road game into a vacation. 03-lmfao

I'd favor UVI.
