EDIT
Adding actual source, Chicago Tribune: Linkarrific
I can't stand their arrogance
All those wasted words and rambling conjecture in that Chicago Tribune article, when a simple "Notre Dame rejects notion of losing to MAC team on National TV to cap off season" would've sufficed.

Word!
I wouldn't doubt if there are behind the scenes negotiations to sweeten ND's pot. By saying today that they are leaning towards not bowling, saves them the embarrassment of saying yes, only to have Hawaii win and having the bowls tell them no. If Hawaii loses tonmorrow, I wouldn't be surprised if ND has a "change of heart" come Sunday afternoon after ESPN ponies up alot of cash to get them to play.
roll calls in the house... roll calls in the house!
"And a wholly disappointing season could only end in an irrelevant, remote postseason outpost such as Mobile, Ala., or Detroit."

03-melodramatic 03-weeping
hornytiger4birdiewaltintempleprofitfierce was WRONG? How can that be? Even the frosted haired singer for the band on the CD in my Walkman couldn't believe it!
and you guys are ohhhhhhhhhhhhh so right
Why would you want to go to a bowl with a fired coach?
Notre Dame joins Michigan on the couch this bowl season.
The biggest excuse ND gave for declining a bowl bid was that they have no offensive coordinator. I guess they have no assistant coaches that know how to call an offensive play.
You guys didn't really expect ND to take on a MAC team with their 6-6 squad, did 'ya? In their minds, nuthn' to gain, and much to lose. Oh well...question is, if Hawaii loses, do they even have enough 6-6 teams to fill out the bowls? What bowl "scraps" is the MAC gonna get to face us in the bowls we're in?
More ND arrogance. Easily one of my top ten most hated schools.

If both Hawaii and Army lose, I think that still leaves UCLA. If they decline a bowl bid, then I think we'd be left with Louisiana-Monroe or Louisiana-Lafayette.
If ND & UCLA are off the table. Pizza bowl can take
NoIll & BG, it's possiable that only 7 win team will be available.
CM to Toronto
Ohio to Mobile
Temple to Wash DC
ND has standards. The Irish shouldn't be going to a bowl game with a 6-6 record; they are just willing to say it.

They did last year.
Makes no sense to go to a bowl with a fired coach, or using a probably soon to be fired assistant as interim.

CMU did it.
