I will say this because it will drive Pitt crazy..but..I believe it's true..
With a healthy Mike Smith..we win that game in Knoxville last night..
If he was back this year anywhere close to where he was end of last year with these new guys we have now??? Of course we will never know, but I think we win at UT last night..I don't think Ut played their best last night and we had an opportunity to win even without Mike..
I also think that trying to get Mike back into the rotation hurts our team play.. Nobody has a bigger heart than Mike, and he is trying to play with pain..and he is far from being the player he was..
I don't know if he needs to red shirt, but I hope he can hang in and get back to form by the end of the season, because a healthy Mike along with Tubbs, Hubbard, Cooley, Ward, Sallazo .. and I think Brown will come on strong again as the year goes along.. and that's a pretty dang
good basketball team this year..
But then think about this..all those guys are back next year.. so if Mike does red shirt and everyone else has a years experience..next year could be one of those really special Buc years...
Doesn't drive me crazy.

But I'll ask this, if what you ask is true, would it benefit ETSU NOT to redshirt Mike Smith so he could possibly be available in March for tournament play?

If you believe ETSU would have won with a healthy Smith, how powerful could the team be in the A-Sun and, potentially, NCAA Tournament?

What you're essentially saying is that with Smith, this team can beat Top 10 competition. If that's so, then perhaps we should put talk of redshirting him on hold.
The decision to redshirt Mike should have been made weeks ago, he's giving us nothing hobbling around and throwing up bricks.
If you can make the decision retroactively, and I'm pretty sure you can, then it might behoove the Bucs to sit Smith for awhile and see what he can do when it counts.

Goldfinger

I'm not against redshirting him
He had a pretty good night tonight, but it still looks like he's about 50%. Redshirt him.
