Wow! With the 1st selection this year, GMAC officials are jumping on the Owls bandwagon and are negotiating with ND and Temple to bring the two together as the best matchup to generate national interest for the Mobile AL Bowl.

Wowee, Both schools have indivdiuals with ties as it was Charlie Weis who gave Al Golden a glowing reference to resurrect the Temple Owls.

Word is ND will only accept the bid if Temple is included as the opponent.

:airplane: Looks like we're off to 'bama
Seeing that the GMAC bowl is going to take the MAC champion that kinda excludes Temple.

potts ... I'm skeptical of a first-time poster making this sort of claim, but that being said, the GMAC is not bound to take the MAC champion. They have first choice, which means they can choose whomever they deem most attractive.
And ND probably knows that Temple is the only MAC school that they can beat in a bowl game. 04-bolt

You'd think that the 10-2 Chips would offer a slightly more enticing match-up for ND.

And you'd think that such a match up would be in Detroit...benefitting both Universities' fans.

I realize the Chimps are "bored" of the MCB...but facing nearby ND down in Mobile is dumn.
to who? Folks from central michgian?
I disagree....I don't CMU has the profile nationally that Temple has. I dn't think they have the history or academic standing Temple does either. ND is about the sizzle more so than the steak...

To someone who wants to watch ND play a program with a recent history of quality and a conference champion...
9.5 out of 10 sports fans have no idea that Buffalo was last years MAC champion.... if it was TEmple or Toledo or BSU ... same deal.

CMU... great team... best MAC team over the last five years... will beat Notre Dame... Will Note Dame want to play them? Not sure 9.5 out 10 sports fans could tell you one thing about the team... I am not sure I can ramble off a whole bunch outside of Butch... I mean Brian Kelly leaving and Dan Lefevour. They beat Michigan State, lost to BC and have to go back and look at schedules to see what else there is. I don't think Temple is any better preception wise... but is it really any worse? Temple is the best 9-3 team ND can beat.

I went through the schedule and the Michigan state win was awesome!... after that the prestige? Bowl win?
What happened to the "horny tiger?" 05-nono
What I find ironic is that ND is going to announce tomorrow whether they will take a bowl invitation, and they are arrogant enough to believe they can dictate their opponent. However, if Hawaii beats Wisconsin, there will be no bowl to invite them. I'm hoping that Hawaii upsets the Badgers, and the Fighting Irish can plant their 6-6 underachieving butts onto their couches for the bowl season.

Unfortunately, Temple's national profile is that they're bad. Despite a nice season, I'd bet 9.5/10 sports fans think that Temple went 3-9 this year.

I doubt it would garner much positive attention, and good attendance. It's not a bad perspective for Mobile, but it does little for anyone else (Temple benefits w/ a win obviously.)

MTSU in the GMAC bowl also means pretty good attendance.

ND v CMU in Detroit means very good fan turn out in a much bigger venue than Mobile. It's good for CMU fans, casual and avid. It's good for the MAC. It's good for Lefevour (vs Clawson. You can hype that match up). It's good for everybody.

So Hawaii's undeserving butts can go to a bowl? No thanks.

The MAC could benefit from a ND bowl. I'd like to see that.

I'd like to see it too, but I don't think ND should be allowed to choose their opponent.

What constitutes as half of a sports fan?
Different slant on GMAC.

Wouldn't a team rather play in late December as the bowl season is heating up rather then after the BCS bowls?
good point.

No...Temple's rep is that it's a quality University from a big time Eastern city with a rich academic tradition. No offense to CMU..but a Michigan directional can't make that argument.

Yep...there's quite a story to be spun about ND playing CMU in Detroit...I really don't see the Irish getting behind playing a MAC school in the Pizza bowl. Frankly...I think they'd rather stay home than do that
