Dear god, 30.5? Really?

Well, we lost by 24 to Cincinnati on Wednesday night.
Not to rub it in, but really happened to the tradition rich Toledo BB program. They used to be as close to big time as any program in the MAC. There is no reason for Toledo BB to be down so low. What happened?

What???? Outside of one spectacular season under Joplin in 06-07 and a couple other years, they were mostly mediocre for a couple decades.

But to answer your question, I think the point shaving investigation has more to do with it than anything.

I think he's referring to the 70's and early 80's when Toledo went to back to back NCAA's and made the Sweet 16 one year.....that was when Joplin was a player. Bobby Nichols was one of the winningest coaches in MAC history.

I think you are wrong about the point shaving thing, as we were already down before anything came out about that......and remember at first everyone was talking about football and not basketball with the point shaving thing.

Bet the farm! If we don't play WAAAAY better defense 30.5 will be pretty inviting.

Rockets have good perimeter shooters.UT doesn't have the inside game and are too young to keep it close. It could easily be a 30-40 point loss
if UT goes cold and turns the ball over.
My question is whether the Rockets hoopsters will outscore the Rocket gridiron squad.

By a field goal, or I mean a three point shot!

UT Hoops - 44
UT Football - 41
Well, we lost 75-62. We were down 37-30 at the half. Not a bad showing, really.

If Albrecht develops the ability to put the ball on the floor he is going to be special. He may be anyway. And Bastfield is taking care of the ball pretty well. Otherwise we have a bunch of overachievers but seem to be improving.
I don't understand what's so difficult to comprehend about how point spreads are determined.

The number is not the amount of points a team is going to win by...it's a number that (they hope) will result in an equal number of bets placed on each side.

Apparently there are a lot of Michigan State fans out there who will bet on their team even if they have a huge number to cover. So Vegas needs to create an even bigger number so some of those fans will bet against Michigan State.

Apparently it IS difficult. The folks betting on MSU are by and large NOT fans of MSU. They're bettors.
WRONG. A fan bets his team to win almost no matter what. A bettor who doesn't have any emotional tie feasts on opportunities like this.

While that is true, usually a point spread is fairly indicative to what the score should be, at least within a handful of points. And by the way Toledo played in their first two games, we should have been 30 point underdogs. We played a lot better though tonight, and really I've seen improvement in every game we've played with this one having the most improvement.
Yeah the guys who do the spreads are pretty good. College basketball you can usually clean up because they can't possibly put a lot of time in on each game, but they have to be fairly accurate to get those equal bets in the first place.

If you are in one of those Yahoo football pick'ems like I am, really watch the spreads this week. It is incredible how many of those games are within a field goal either way.

Can you cite stats on this from some study, please? And you're saying that most of the folks who bet on the game are MSU fans? -wrong.
