Western Kentucky has already terminated a head coach and it now looks as though Arkansas State’s Roberts, Louisiana’s Bustle and North Texas’s Dodge could all be standing in unemployment line after this season. This will be an interesting final two weeks of the season for the above mentioned programs.
Come on T....you really think our admin will actually pull the plug on BUSTle? I'm not expecting to hear anything after the season is over.
I don't know if Bustle is going anywhere after the season. UL can still reach 7-5 and maybe get a bowl bid. Not a bad season imo considering the skill that was lost last year.
MT is going for a record for Most Opposing HC's fired in one season. We're up to 2 right now. If Roberts and dodge go well be at 4. Fridgien(sp) looks like he might be gone. we could be at 5 even if bustle stays. If he goes then I think 6 would have to be a record.

Cajunman02, there have been no promises of support given to the staff beyond this season from the AD. I've been told this by two assistants on the staff this week. Empty stadium seats and two more games in the loss column, it will be a done deal. A 6-6 season doesn't automatically buy this staff another year either, not after today. We have three bad losses in the SBC this season, all of them in the past four weeks. Let me also add, countless emails and phone calls have been made to the AD's office. It has not been happy times in Farmer and Walkers offices over the past few weeks.03-shhhh

I long for the day when a loss to Middle Tennessee doesn't spark calls for dismissal of the opponent's head coach...but the coaches you have listed were having problems besides a loss to the Blue Raiders.

What's up with Arkansas State? Preseason, they were the popular anti-troy selection to win the conference.

our defense played this year like a New Orleans levee in Hurricane Katrina. Our entire offensive line decided to all get hurt in the same year. Our thousand yard rusher RB struggled early on to find holes and let it get to his head. and our preseason conference player of the year QB regressed to what looked like a bad freshman out there

our recievers couldnt catch, our corners couldnt cover anyone if they try, and our coaches decided to wait till this year to get overly conservative with their game plans

the result is what you have in front of you...a team that is beaten up, depressed, and honestly stands a good chance of losing its last 5 games of the year, including its 2 game closing stretch against North Texas and Western Kentucky that everyone said would be the entire reason we could win the league this year. we could get into a win out situation at the end of the year and only have to beat the 2 worst teams in the conference to get the goal

Unliikely that Dodge will get the axe. He deserves it, should get it, but won't.

Let me add one qualifier. UNT is in the midst of a major athletic fund raising campaign, and is preparing a major general fund raising campaign. The minute Dodge is seen as a detriment in these efforts, he is gone. Even academic types show some business sense and I can't predict when and if he is/will be seen as such a detriment.

Yeah I don't think winning the game against us would have been enough to save West and Elson, it may have staved off the executioner for a few weeks, maybe even to the offseason, but I have a feeling that 1-11 would have gotten him axed as well.

Agree, but let me add one more qualifier- I think that if even just one more Belt team fires a coach, the situation changes.

Our AD is very sensitive to how he's perceived by the fan base. If it looks like the rest of the league is more decisive and has higher standards than he does, I wouldn't be surprised to see him make a move sooner than later.

He doesn't want to look like a fool. If Roberts or Bustle or Weatherbie or anyone else gets the boot after Elson is already gone... I wouldn't be surprised to see him dismiss Dodge just to save face.

Could it also be possible that there is a change at MUTS?? Stockstill is a hot commodity.

no way stockstill would ever leave middle. no matter how much money is thrown at him. plus this is his first 'good' year. he's yet to prove anything.

His first year was a pretty damn good year, and he had that win against Maryland last season.

I'm no MTSU homer, but I think Stockstill is a hell of a coach. My hope back when we hired Dodge (the year after Stockstill came right in and went to a bowl) was that he'd deliver the same way Stockstill did.
I would say Stockstill is far from a hot commodity. His name is coming up for the Memphis job, but if he's even really on their list, I strongly doubt he's at the top. He's a game over .500 on his career here. If we hadn't played and beaten the Tigers twice in the last three years I don't know that they would have even taken notice of what's going on in Murfreesboro.

Furthermore, just based on his credentials, plus what he's being paid now(so far as I know around 250k), I just don't see Memphis opening up the pocketbook for Stock. They can definitely afford to pay him more than we can, but I have to believe that they think they're going to think 500k should be enough to lure him away and if it isn't they can probably find someone who will take the unenviable task of reviving Memphis football for that much.

I read that as sarcasm, but I agree with the 2nd part. This is his first 'good' year with his recruits. But he'll jump at money and prestige just like anyone else. And right now he's at the bottom concerning both, so it won't take much for it to be more than MT can offer.

If Stockstill gets hired away, it'll be a first for the SBC.

Once head coaches start getting hired away from the SBC, we'll know we've got something good going on.
Stocks pay approaches 400K with bonuses. It will likely go up after we go bowling this year. I highly doubt he leaves for Memphis, even though it would double the money. He will build the progam and his pay and wait for an offer from a school that is more football oriented. Why go make 900K-1 mill for 4 years when you can wait and make it for 10-20?

If Fred Smith wants Stockstill at Memphis, it'll get done, I'm afraid.
I usually read you correctly (and agree with you. . gasp!). But the 2nd half didn't go in line with your sarcasm, so I wasn't sure.

True. Money is no object to them.
