They've scheduled a home-home FB series with I-AA Illinois St.

Yes, Ball St. will play a I-AA on the road.
[/align]Oh, Dear God.

This is embarrassing.

And Brady Hoke's departure begins to make more and more sense. That's some AD you have in Muncie. 01-wingedeagle
Makes sense....if you want to be I-AA.

There, I said it.

The only thing that remotely makes sense is that Ball St. does not want to pay a guarantee and these two schools are on the level where a home-home MBK series isn't a sweetner. For example, Southern Illinois played at Indiana, received a smaller guarantee and in turn received a home-home MBK series with the Hoosiers.
Maybe after the New Hampshire game they decided they didn't want to pay to lose to a I-AA team again.

Or maybe the price of a game against a I-AA is getting too high. The stigma against playing I-AA is gone...some schools are actually scheduling two a year...so their price is probably going up. Some I-A teams are getting $1M. It would make sense for I-AA schools to be getting a lot more than they used to as well.
Wish I could argue something.
Holy batsh*t. Just when you think you've seen it all, well, I guess not.
Strange. Ball St goes THERE first before ISU returns. Maybe ISU will be a MAC memer by then. 05-stirthepot

Realignment queens thats your cue......

Only thing that comes off the top of my head is that WKU played at Eastern Kentucky during its transitional period from I-AA to I-A. But that was a longtime rivalry that would end as a regular series because the two schools would play in different classifications.

I also believe it *might* be part of the Master Plan by Stan Parrish (all speculation).

He bitched and moaned about having to play Auburn this year and was trying his damndest to get out of the Iowa game next year (or the year after).

Here is BSU's 2010 OOC:

Butler (big rivalry game)

This seems rather odd. I thought it was some sort of rule that 1-A teams can't play on the road against 1-AA teams.

Ball State football is in a very bad downward spiral right now.
Their could be a surprise.....ISU is planning to move up to FBS football in 2015 and is using the game to count during the 2 year transitional period.

Or maybe not. This could cause other MVC schools to demand home-home games with MAC football schools.

I wonder if the climate is changing to the point with FCS that its going to become enticing for NAQ to move down. When the rules were that you could only count an FCS victory 1 time every four years for eligibility that really limited interest and desire on the part of the BCS to schedule FCS schools.

If you can now get that big money payday every year in FCS and you then have lower associated costs with playing at that level (65 scholarships as opposed to 85) why not make the move down, especially if your a "hanger-on" type of program with no fan support.

There are schools in the MAC who are not under any circumstances going to move down and are licking their chops at the idea of a few MAC schools bowing out.
Embarrassing. Outrageous.

This is where a strong commissioner would step in ... if the MAC had one.
Illinois State is replacing Toledo in the MAC, when the Rockets drop football due to the worst defense in the universe.

The series with Illinois St. does not start until 2013.
I hope whatever collective voice BSU fans have out there rise up and convey their disgust over this to the athletic department.

Realignment queens thats your cue......

-I don't think we'll see MAC schools leave and form a new conference, rather a few schools will drop down.

-The schools I think are most in danger of moving down to FCS.

EMU (no support or competitiveness)
BGSU (AD has discussed a move to DII)
Ball State (signed home-home with FCS)

-If 3 schools left the MAC, that would leave it with 10 in football and 9 in basketball. The perfect size, however if the MAC wants to move up to multibid status in basketball, I would add a few basketball only schools.

Butler (replaces Ball St)
St. Louis (new market, adds a rival for NIU)
George Washington (rival for Temple)
Dayton/Xavier (lower travel costs, long term security)
UMass (New England market)

This would give the MAC 16 in hoops and 10 in football while at the same time a 3-4 bid basketball conference. This is like old CUSA which had great hoops.

I can understand that, but this is really, really out there.

BGSU will not be moving to D-II or to D-IAA (or whatever its being called these days). Not sure why you are so scared of BGSU

The stigma is gone for Power Conferences. After all if you're Florida you can play a couple of cupcakes a year and still say that we played Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Auburn, ..., ...

Teams in the MAC need to earn respect and you don't get that by beating up a slow kid (or losing to them) and then winning in conference against other MAC teams.

The *only* reason Temple is not within a game of being #25 is because they lost to Nova. I *sort* of understand Temple playing Nova but for most MAC teams there is no real FCS school worth playing unless you want to pad your schedule and no team in the MAC should be padding their schedule.
