From my post off of gotroytrojans.com I basically update the scenerios for open bowl slots with our tie in bowls (Papajohns, St. Pete, and Indy). We can start looking next week at other bowls that might have openings. For our tie-in bowls, in a nutshell, we need one or two certain SEC teams to go 0-3 to create an open slot (or two).

Pretty simple what's left... here we go:

St. Pete bowl: With Notre Dame losing, there's no way they'll get into a BCS game, so they'll take a Big East bowl (Gator Bowl). The Big East has six bowl tie ins and five bowl eligible teams already add Notre Dame to it, and they are full. Doesn't matter if UConn gets to six wins or not, this spots full. CUSA only has one team with more than six wins, but they've got a whole slew of them at five wins. They'll start swapping wins with one another and have a bunch of them get to 6-6. Forget about St. Pete.

The Big 12 spot for the Indy Bowl is as good as filled. As we mentioned above, the Big East spot for the PapaJohns bowl is filled... period.

The last ray of hope for an open bowl slot with the Sunbelt tie-in bowls are the slots the SEC has in the Indy and Papajohns bowls. GA, TN, AR, and KY all have 5 wins and 3 games left. For the Papajohns bowl to be open, 1 of them has to go 0-3. For the Indy bowl to be open, 2 of them have to go 0-3. KY plays both GA and TN. So at least one of the three will get their 6th win there. KY has Vandy next week. GA looks to have the toughest schedule with KY, Aubby, and GA Tech left. AR has Miss State and LSU after they play us.

So however you want to root for it to all break down for one or two of them to go 0-3 is up to you.

Don't forget about Ole Miss. Even though the Webels are 6-3, they have two wins over I-AA schools. Their remaining schedule isn't a cakewalk, so if they finish 6-6, they're left out, because for bowl purposes they only have five wins (you can only count one I-AA victory per year).
Ole Miss... I did forget about them having 2 FCS (1aa whatever) teams on their schedule. I'd actually LOVE for them to go 6-6 and get left at home because of that. What sweet freakin' justice would THAT be!

Also, how stupid would it make all of the "experts" putting them so high up in the polls.

I don't know if it makes a difference, but K-State could also lose their last 2, end up 6-6 and not be bowl eligible due to playing 2 FBS schools as well. That is my dream scenario for the Cajuns, last year we stayed home as a 6-6 usm and 6-6 utep went to bowl games, and we lost to both of them. this year, it'd be nice for our win to be the one that kept them from being bowl eligible.
As far as the Big East goes, Notre Dame has to be within two wins of the Big East runner-up to take the Gator Bowl, and that is starting to look less likely than a few weeks ago. This holds especially true if Pitt beats the Fighting Irish and then goes on to win the league title. UConn beating Notre Dame will definitely seal the deal because they would be 7-5 at best, with the Big East runner-up possibly sitting at 10-2 if it's Pitt, or 11-1 if it's Cincinnati. UConn could also potentially sweep the last three games against the Fighting Irish, Syracuse, and South Florida (in the cold) to finish at 7-5 and be guaranteed a bowl bid. This would send Notre Dame to the at-large pool once again and, of course, every bowl with an opening would be falling all over themselves in a repeat of last December.

One last little monkey wrench... Pitt is creeping up the BCS standings and if they lose to Cincy, but win the rest of their games, they would probably be in the top 14 and able to be selected as an at-large. Moving the entire order up again.
Krocker is on the money. ND appears UNLIKELY to take the Gator bowl due to not being within 2 wins of the #2 BE team, which will likely be either an 11-1 UC or 10-2 Pitt. ND appears heading for a 7-5 type season. This possibly leaves the St Pete bowl open for the Sun Belt.
I think CUSA will end up with six bowl teams, as usual, so the St. Petersburg Bowl will be filled from that side. The Big East is the question mark because UConn has to win at least two more games for the league to cover that spot.
