With basketball season about to start, we will have more arguements on the board from posters who are just happy the Bucs are playing basketball and having a winning season.

The hopes of previous seasons to actually build on the previous NCAA appearance into a nationally ranked program will be called too excessive. We'll be told that 6,000 is a sellout despite 6,000 empty seats, we'll have a commentator tell us this team is better than the ones of the Mister or Wadood eras, we'll be told everything is great and we should just be happy with a first-round NCAA loss as long as it's close and, hey, even if it isn't, wasn't it fun to make the tournament?

And if we say we want more than the same old rerun of a first-round NCAA defeat or if we theorize that since we now have a coach who isn't going to use ETSU as a stepping stone that the program could do bigger and better things, we'll be called

NEGATIVE

HATERS

WE LIVE TO PUT DOWN ETSU ACCOMPLISHMENTS

I don't know about you, but I would say that the people who think all ETSU can ever do is be a football-less school that lives to get their heads chopped off by big boys, let alone Belmont, are the negative ones.

Goldfinger

I think it is very important to support the but be realistic about the basketball program we have today.
Well said Gold. I know this program has some history but its not easy to stay at the top of your game especially in college basketball today. Look at a program like Maryland, they won the national championship not too long ago. Built a brand new arena and are now stuggling to remain a top program. Its easier said than done.
I think it is realistic to expect ETSU to build on their NCAA appearance and not regress to the middle of the A-Sun.

Especially now that they don't have a coach who will likely be going anywhere- unlike previous regimes.

Not immediately its not, the payoff for making the NCAA tourney haven't kicked in yet. And since we failed to make the tourney in the years immediately preceding the past year we haven't been getting a payoff in the past few years. Its not like we've been stock piling talent these last few years where losing a CP, Tiggs, and Hamlin won't hurt. We unfortunately don't have a lot of guys waiting in the wings that can carry the torch and lead us back to the NCAA.

Considering the fact that we haven't been stocking piling a lot of young talent I don't think it is unrealistic to expect a drop off.
I agree with both of you guys. Losing seniors hurts any program and unfortunately the team lost Seth as well. With basketball having so few players its easy to go from an up year to a down year. I think we were lucky to have CP here considering he was going to go to Louisville and I think we're lucky to have Tubbs here now. I've been pleased with our recruiting but seeing a thread on here about seeing Bartow at Crockett is somewhat scary. Going back to a team like Maryland, Gary Williams typically hasn't recruited AAU teams and players and that's starting to show. The new trend is AAU teams, not HS teams. The top talent is playing AAU and you can better judge a player againest AAU competetion. The coaches that are getting top recruits are spending their offseasons at AAU games and camps
So what do you want? Root against the team? Play down any successes? And who the hell ever said that this team was better than the Mister years? If that's happened, I guess I don't listen to enough sports radio.

I think this team can do it, win the league, get back to the NCAAs, knock somebody off. Of course it can happen. I think that every year. In my opinion, I have no choice but to be optimsitic until I see true regression in the program. And I haven't seen that, despite what you guys spout.
I can't believe everyone is taking the bait on this one.
It's not about taking the bait. It's about setting the trap to get him banned again. It's fun!
03-lol

Come on now, he has been fairly well behaved. I like this Pitt.

Go- Why did you think I was talking about you?

My quote was- "a commentator tell us this team is better than the ones of the Mister or Wadood eras."

Are you a professional sports commentator? If so, please tell us.

MyGo- Why did you think I was talking about you?

My quote was- "a commentator tell us this team is better than the ones of the Mister or Wadood eras."

My comment was generally based on Bud saying on the Morning Monster that he felt the Bucs 2007 NIT squad was better than the Wadood teams.

Are you a professional sports commentator? If so, please tell us.
This has always been me.

A guy who demands more than first round losses in the NCAAs from ETSU.

If that's what you're satisfied with, then all you'll ever get is the product they've been producing.

However, if you really want to know, I would call it negative a certain high profile poster who accused me in 2007 of rooting for football not to come back when I am on the board of the BFFF.

I feel like Kelly LeBrock- "Don't hate me because I don't wave pom poms."
Where did I say that's what I'm satisfied with? First round losses? I've always said I want bigger & better things for ETSU, but I also realize that we've had good performances in first round games. Just because we lost in the first round doesn't mean we stunk it up, and doesn't mean the season was a failure. On the other hand, the fact of the matter is that getting to the NCAAs is a major goal for any team at this level, and that I don't think is something you realize.

My earlier point was: What commentator has ever said this team, or any team, was better than Jennings'/Wadood's teams? I did make a comment about sports radio in that earlier post that you missed. You have to read the entire post, Pitt, not just read the parts you want to argue against.

You're on the board of the BFFF? No wonder I don't like this organization.
Fan 1,
That nasty Pitt that we all love to hate is in there somewhere....
During the 2007 NIT run, "Bud" of the Morning Monster said that he felt that team was better than the Wadood teams.

I don't know what he was smoking, either.
And where did I say the "season was a failure" or "ETSU stunk it up?"

However, if you're satisfied with a first round loss, competitive game or no, in the first round- that's all you're gonna get.

I was thinking about this the other day- why southern sports fans are satisfied with mediocrity?

It's well known the sportswriters and fans in the south are less critical than they are in other parts of the country. And it's also well known the south absolutely SUCKS in pro sports.

Atlanta has one World Title in their history- in Pittsburgh we get double that in a season.

Charlotte, Nashville, Memphis, New Orleans have never won a World Title in ANYTHING.

The traditional, non-Florida south has only two World Titles in their history- the '95 Braves and the 2006 Carolina Hurricanes.

There's a lesson to be learned here. When you demand more- you get more.

And if you call 10-point losses to Pitt "epic" or brag on moral victories- that's all you're gonna get.

bartow should be at crockett as there is certainly nothing wrong with checking out a local big up close.... he has in roads into several (nike) aau programs and etsu was well represented in orlando (aau nationals) this summer...

he has been in the major settings before so i wouldn't worry about he and his staff when it comes to finding good players..

i come over from time to time to check on one of our old blazers.... the name Bartow still means a lot to many of us in blazerdom..... his dad was, of course, our founder, but murry did a lot of work for us as a player, assistant and head coach when our conference was the sh*t....
i still think anything a bartow does is somehow tied back to UAB....
