close their practices to fans and fail to give out any information to their fans on a fairly regular basis concerning the team and how they're progressing. Maybe others do it. I don't really know, but somehow I would think that at this time of the year they wouldn't be closing practices. Helen Keller would have been the ideal UALR fan. See no evil...hear no evil...speak no evil! Sorry. Not politically correct. The devil made me do it.01-lauramac2
Just 12 more days Doc.

Not much info comes out but, Brady doesn't close practices. I doubt he would hesitate to kick you out though if you were loud.

That would be appropriate since it would definitely be distracting to the coaches and players. I met Coach Brady after the UALR-ASU game last year, and he was very nice. Especially since they had lost a heartbreaker to us just a short while before. I thought he was a pretty classy guy. I wish him well, except, obviously, against us.04-cheers
McDonald started the season with open practices but there were crowds starting to gather to see the team and it was becoming a distraction (not to mention some comments towards a newcomer on the haven that were less than constructive) so he closed them. I think a few folks have still sneaked in though.

A few folks would be all that would be at our practices anyway. But I'm surprised that your fans would be making insulting comments to a player, if I am reading your post correctly. I have always had a high regards for the Western fans, and am surprised that would occur. There are other places where I might expect it.04-cheers

There was one in particular. I have no doubt that McDonald monitored the haven for comments. The comment was something to the effect of "Dixon hasn't shown me anything" with some kind of elaboration on that. Keep in mind that is a player that had just moved onto campus and was playing in a pick up game. Also keep in mind this is a kid that was offered by Memphis.

It was really a silly thing to say. If the kid reads that what does that accomplish? He could have said something diplomatic like "Dixon was feeling things out" or have not said anything at all. Not to even mention that I have seen Dixon with my own eyes and to my eyes he was the single most impressive newcomer we had in the scrimmage a couple of weeks ago.

I agree that the comment might be stupid, but if the coaches and players are so insecure that they can't let criticism roll off their backs, what will happen when they're on the road and students are hurling insults, although mostly good natured, at them. If a player is so weak minded that what some yahoo on one of our boards says really bothers him, he has a problem. Just my take on it. Maybe I'm wrong.04-cheers
