"DeKALB – Northern Illinois quarterback Chandler Harnish is questionable for Saturday's game at Miami (OH) with a knee injury, coach Jerry Kill said after Tuesday's practice.

He went to the doctor today and he'll be questionable for Saturday," Kill said. "We've just got to wait and see how the situation is going to work out. He's got a knee situation and how bad and how critical, time will tell over the next two or three days."

not. good.

we literally have 0 passing game without him ... none ... not a bad one, we have none.
Grady would have played the entire game LY against Miami had he not gotten hurt as well. I say we throw him out there and see what he can do. He can't do any worse than Harnish did against the Rockets.

It's not like we had much of a passing game with him either.
Grady's passing line vs Tennessee last year:

Northern Illinois Comp Att Yds Pct Y/A
D. Grady 4 10 39 40.0 3.9

We don't throw the ball very much as it is. Might as well put Me'Co at QB and have Spann line up in the backfield and see what happens.

That's true. I'm really not sure how many passes Harnish completes that Grady couldn't.

Either way we should win this Saturday.
From what I have seen, there is a big gap between Harnish and Grady (in his limited playing time) from a passing perspective. I think Harnish has improved from what we saw last year. Hopefully, Grady has as well.
This is why you need to get Grady playing time. Also, how will they alter the game plan with Grady? Will they simplify the passing game(is that possible). Will Grady run more?(Miami should put 8 and 9 in the box).

Harnish has passed enough to keep teams honest but we are not a passing team. Grady is a strong runner. Saturday should be interesting.

Run the Wildcat!

This will be the key. If Grady is at QB, all Miami has to do is stack the box. With Grady at QB, we simply do not pass.

Run the Wildcat!

Not just the wildcat, run the Miami (Dolphins) wildcat. 2 TEs 2 RBs 0 WR! Miami (OH) wouldn't know what hit em. Someone get them the jets v dolphins tapes!
Grady if called upon will be fine. Need not worry.
I think Grady has a better arm than Harnish. Grady can sling it. They just need to give him the chance.
I have seen little in Grady to suggest he can manage a game and do anything else but run for his lfe....yes, he can sling it but to whom?

I would NOT be surprised to see Ryan relieve him midway second quarter if the O is going no where.

To say Grady could do no worse than Harnish vs Toledo is pure folly.

At this stage of his career he reminds me more of Frisman Jackson - rocket arm, quick feet and little else in QB skills.

I wish Grady & his teammates nothing but the best. Miami will dare us to throw the ball. How RedHawks held NU to 16 pts remains a mystery - given how often in a game the Cats are now slinging the football.

It's football. Players get hurt. NIU is not unique in its dilemma and challenge ahead. Yes, this too shall pass - but can the Huskies?

There are no guarantees and earlier talk about going 8-3 into CMU seems even more ridiculous today.
I think Grady will do fine. He did when he started against Miami last season. The only defense worse than Toledo's is Miami's. So if he has a good game then it will be a nice confidence booster for him heading into the Akron game. But the coaching staff shouldn't baby him. Let him throw the ball as much as they let Harnish throw it (20-25x per game).

Stats vs. Miami last year:
7-for-12 with 63 yards passing a 1 TD.
6 rushes for 43 yards.
Wishbone!
Lets all relax! Yes, does possibly losing Chandler hurt, of course, but Grady and Morris will be fine. Its really going to come down to one thing, the OLine! They need to rally around whoever is behind center and create holes for the backs, we do that, the QB will take care of itself.

Yes, yes, yes!!! With our depth and talent at running back and tight end, and the lack of talent at WR, the Wildcat seems perfect for this team. Not sure why we haven't seen it yet. If Chandler is out for any length of time, hopefully we will.
We have used the Wildcat this year. However. it's mostly been used when we have big leads and we are trying to milk the clock. I think we'd use it some if Grady has to play QB. So, JA could be the beneficiary of Harnish's injury.
