Temple at Toledo

Thoughts on this game?

Is Temple legit?

Will Toledo be starting the 3rd string QB?
I want to wish good luck to the UT fans, and hopefully, it's a good game. I'd like to be there, but it's pretty far away, and I have schoolwork, unfortunately. A nice sized group from our messageboard is going, though.
This is perhaps the one game before the Ohio game that Temple could lose, but QB situation at Toledo may swing this into Temple favor. You can bet most of the MAC East will looking at the game.

Ah, but we might be without Bernard Pierce. It's something to follow over the course of the week.
This is chance for Temple to make a statement, IMO. This should be the last real MAC challenge until the Ohio game. An Owl win sets the table for an East title.
Everyone has injuries... Temple had their biggest against Army. BP has been our entire offense. If Temple is a good team they will be able to adapt.

VC needs to step it up and we certainly have a chance, he has shown flashes but needs to show he can lead and sustain drives with his arm/legs whatever. The next two games will test Temple's Ghusto because if they can;t win these two a final 6 going 3-3 may leave us sitting at home, no MAC championship game and no bowl.
Early on, it looks like Opelt will play and Dantin will be out. Still too early to say for sure though.
This will be a good test for Temple. The D is solid, but the offense has spurts of competence followed by great lulls. Seems as if the Off. Cord. pulls back from what is successful early. Pierce is a weapon. Without him Temple may be ordinary. I look for a close game. I think the Rockets are pretty good at home.
This is an important game for Temple. I'm interested to see how they look against a good team. The two best teams the Owls played against they lost to. Next week it doesn't get any easier against Navy. We could very easily be sitting here in a couple weeks at 4-4. These are an important couple of games. 1-1 would be a great accomplishment.

I'm hoping we can put together a couple wins. I'd love to have an excuse to make a trip to Akron or Athens for a game. Akron being considerably closer and having the NFL HOF near by.
It appears as if Bernard Pierce isn't going to play. If that is the case, I am not confident in the least bit of our ability to win this game.
running back comparison

Listened to Beckman's radio show last night and he had a lot of respect for Pierce. What happened to him? We're still waiting to hear if Opelt will play. Right now, he is listed as probable. If not, we will have to go with our 3rd team guy Pettee. Current backup, Austin Dantin is out. Looking forward to a good game.
I have no ******* clue what is going to happen in this game. Things are so random this year with West teams. I say Toledo wins because of home field.
Opelt is playing... in the conference call yesterday it was said he was going to practice and could have played last week...

Looks like a battle.. I would say Toledo is the Fav.
Now for the rest of the story....

How did Toledo give up 56 to WMU? a team that put up 3 total the previous week?
How was the game even close against BSU? the team I saw in philly had as much going for it as any 0-11/12 team in history. 21 points off of desperate passes... great finish but why is this even a game?

Now Toledo also beat Colordo who just played a great game against kansas.... is CU any good or did they play down to Toledo?
FIU is no better or worse then EMU.... so i can;t complain about this win.

I can;t get a pulse on who Toledo is? I would say they are a team on a hot streak ... When things click can be dangerous... but at times this year has just not got it done.

Temple is a run first team with a bend but don't break defense. Our key running back is unlikely but in my mind plausible. TEMPLE started to have a running game at the end of last year with who is now a back up. when BP started running it seemed like it was our line making the holes. The last two games BP would make a guy miss then blow someone up for 5+ yard carries. I am unsure of his replacements ability... The line can only get you so far... and TEMPlE has had some injuries to the line...

The Temple wins are against some very bad teams, much worse then Toledo. Games where TEMPLE dominated the first halfs in most cases. WE give our second half efforts like we do in BSU AND EMU... or even get bad penalties like Army then Temple loses. I however think its the first real challenge to see what the owls got, see if they can put together a full game. I got to have confidence they can get it done. Hopefully both teams bring their "A" games and we get a real treat here in the mid season.
Toledo is a team that is trying to shake four years of bad habits and undisciplined mindset. I believe it has been leading to inconsistency and a full-on relapse against WMU.

Toledo has been playing 10-11 RFr/Fr on their 2 deep.Against WMU,UT was not prepared, not focused, and staff was too slow to make the needed adjustments.
3 and out to start the first 2 "drives", then fumble the ensuing kickoff. WMU scored the first 3 times they had the ball. 2 of those "drives" took a combined 3 plays. Toledo has been very inconsistent this year, and 4 freshmen starting doesn't help that. When the OL opens a few holes and the running game gets going, Toledo is tough. When it doesn't, we abandon the run too early and go to the air. Meanwhile, the defense is defending a short field much of the night. Big plays have killed Toledo in their losses this year. The difference this past Saturday (imo, the most complete game the Rockets have played in 4 years) was that they played well enough to overcome several serious mistakes, any one of which could have changed the outcome of the game.

Yes but Temple has more depth at halfback than Toledo has at QB...
I look at who Toledo beat and I think they should win...
I look at who they lost to and think Temple should win...
I think Temple has done very well with big plays and turnovers of their own... fast leads... and think they should win... but am reserved because of who Toledo has beaten...
