I think there should be more cheering. The whole silence thing would add too much pressure on the line for me. ;-)
silence is how they shoot them in practice.
Dead silence sort of puts the pressure on...a little bit of cheering would be great...

"A little bit of cheering..." I'm trying to think of how I would do that as a fan at a game (golf clap perhaps?).
I don't think silence is the way to go. To easy for some opposing fan to bellow something to disrupt him.

Think putting in golf.

I don't know what the best thing to do is, though.

We should all stand on our hands... that would be different lmfao lmfao lmfao
OK, if you checked the box "something cool I haven't thought of", please share what the cool thing is please. 04-bow
It should depend on the opposition's strength. If they are there in a sizable number (IE Memphis) then we should do barely enough to drown them out, otherwise I think silence SHOULD be fine.

If we're concerend enough we should ask players or CMA.
The Georgetown students were standing the entire game vs Duke.. When a Dukie was shooting a free throw,, the students all held their arms out to the right or left as a group,, Then when the player started to shoot, they all quickly shifted their arms to the opposite side.. Had that suddenness that could rattle the shooter. I liked it as much as anything ive seen from 'Involved" student groups during a game.
Why don't we perfect getting everyone to scream and raise hell when the opponent is shooting free throws, before we worry about what we should do when we shoot free throws.

Because it would take far fewer folks to change the tense silence during our shots.

I can't make all the moms and dads get up and scream during the opposing team's shots, but a few of us can add a tad bit of background noise to keep the pressure down.
The rule of thumb in the 30 something years I have followed basketball is that fans be quiet when your team is shooting free throws and make noise when the opponent is shooting free throws. The teams themselves are aware of this rule. Don't you think it would be somewhat distracting if all of a sudden the Blazers own fans started making noise when they are concentrating on hitting a free throw.

Besides, I believe a seasoned basketball player is not affected one bit by anything a fan may do when he is attempting a free throw. Everything that is going on that affects whether he makes the shot or not is in his head.
