As my posts earlier in the week indicated, I figured that the combination of A&M's nation leading yardage offense and our "hot knife through butter" defense made for a real bad combination. Then I noticed in the newspaper that A&M was only a 14 point favorite, at home, and that they had a hard time outscoring New Mexico last week. Maybe I was wrong I thought after reading that information. When we recovered the opening kick off, got on the board first, and then held the Aggies to a three and out on their first series, hope soared. I should have known better. After that things started going slowly down hill and then picked up speed. They say that alcoholics and addicts have to hit absolute bottom before they start clawing out their way out of the holes they have dug for themselves. That seems to be the Blazers fate as well. One can hope that the bottom has been reached, but there are still many games to play this season. I fear that the bottom will only be reached when the most rabid Blazer fans rise up in absolute rebellion.
Thank God.

The game has been over for half an hour. I was beginning to worry.

I yet to be critical of anyone, even posters like you. In every one of my post I have just stated the facts. If you don't like my posts why don't you attack them head on instead of just making snide remarks that that have no substance. Implying that I post after loses is meaningless when there have been precious few opportunities to to post after wins during this the worst run of games in UAB's short history.
Not that you've exploited such opportunities or anything.

I'm sorry, that was snide.

Okay, address your "facts" head on...

We hit rock bottom at home against UTEP three years ago. They could have hung a hundred on us tonight and I wouldn't feel as sick as I did that night.
I don't know if we have reached bottom, but I have a nasty feeling in my gut that says we will be 1-5 in two more weeks. Will we be as bad off as Memphis fans are right now??? Then we might have reached bottom.
Have we reached bottem yet? I don't know.
What I do know is
just when I think we can't play/coach any worse, we do.

Well, you must have passed out during that game and haven't come to yet. During the 2007, 2008, and 2009 seasons we have lost 21 games while winning only 7, by far the worst stretch of games in UAB history. We had one of the worst defenses in the nation last year and well on our way to duplicating that feat again this year. I biggest "rival" hung 70 on us last year in what was the biggest embarrassment in entire history of UAB sports. You must have been unconscious through all of that. Quit living in the past - bashing former coaching staffs does nothing to improve the current situation. Spending time in a frying pan does not make jumping into the fire a better alternative.

I'd love nothing more than to be proved wrong though.......
There's no way this team wins more than 3 more games. It's gonna be another bad season.

by far the worst stretch of games in UAB history, but not by much
Watsons was 10-18 to round out his stellar career and one year he
went 3-9 with a team that had 30+ Seniors
i'm just as upset as every other Blazer fan and it's not looking good,
but we still have 8 games left , we'll see what happens.
We hit rock bottom each and every week as soon as Cajun logs on.
As I said in an earlier post, we were so far down that we could improve as a team a great deal and still not improve our record since everyone else is striving to improve as well(AND they are not coming back from a 60 scholarship year). UAB has signed a few above average players, BUT many of those didn't make it to campus this year (EX: see 2 of 3 notable RBs). UAB must FIRST sign AND THEN actually bring to campus more above average players. We seem to be starting to do some of this. Then we must have time with them working as a unit ON THE FIELD, not in "held out shirts" WATCHING from the seat of the stationary bikes as the others practice like so many (particularly on DEFENSE) had to do all of last spring and some this fall.

What percentage of the 44 players listed on our 2-deep charts are playing in their first full-time year at UAB? The tenure of the coaching staff is irrelevant since they don't play a down.
How experienced the team is has nothing to do with horrible play calling.

If we finish the season 6-6, then will you publicly apologize for overreacting. We will lose to USM and Ole Miss. After that, we have a lot of very winnable conference games ahead. Sit back, drink some Kool Aid and support our team until the season is over. We just might go bowling.....

"IF" is a huge word at this point. Believing that we will win five of those "winnable" six games will take more than drinking Kool Aid at this point, unless the Kool Aid contains some of those mushrooms that turn blue when squeeze them. Four of those six games are on the road and it is unlikely that we will be favored in more than one or two. Troy and Texas A&M have pointed the way to beating UAB this year. Contain joe Webb's running and make him beat you with his arm. Then slice up UABs vunerable passing defense with passes in the middle. Once they move to shut that off, go deep. Just pray that Southern Miss doesn't hang 70 on us again Thursday night in front of nine thousand fans.

Are you saying that the coaching staff had nothing to do with having to come back from 60 scholarships or subsequent recruiting?
OMG How long has the Houston staff been there or USM how long have there player played together?

Go grasp at straws somewhere else.

and

how many returning starters does a team need to be referred to as experienced?
didn't we return the entire offense and 7 or 8 on defense? and our coaching staff (I know, it's a term I use loosely)
has been intact for 3 years.
Bamablazerfan is an old school Bama fan. Of course, he's going to take up for an old school Bama coach.
First, it's "bottom".

Second, it's a good question, but I don't think we have enough data yet. We're getting there though. If we suffer another loss (blowout or otherwise) this Thursday I think you can call the chance for a bowl on the season. And that would make even 6-6 unlikely and speak to a likely step back from the modest 4 win campaign in 2008. This would be a failure of the coaching staff and team to advance, even along the rather easy path cleared for them by the majority of the fanbase.

At this point, with the most Kool Aid™ I can find and wearing my rosiest rose colored glasses I can see only 3 other potential wins. That would be 4-8... And that's being extremely optimistic. 2-10, 4-8, 4-8 isn't going to cut it. I don't give two damns what the last coach left ya.
You never know where Rock Bottom is until you are out of the hole. You can't say you are at the bottom when you are still free falling.

Fire Callaway. Hire a real coach and in a few years I can tell you where rock bottom was.
