between how good or how bad we might be. Not so last year. We pretty well knew that we would be pretty good, and we were, even with the Stevie distraction, which had to have been boiling underneath all year. But you had solid senior leadership, good maturity, good coaching in fundamentals. This year we might be pretty good, but we might be far worse than that. Helps keep Doc on his toes.
One could argue that we were pretty good, in part, because of Stevie.
Could. He was out 5 games, and we were 4-1 in them, but looked pretty bad in the last one.

While I support the decision Coach Shields made to dismiss Stevie(don't think he had any other choice), I do give Stevie credit for a large part of our success. I believe our chances in the tournament would have been better had he been available, and had he possessed the right attitude. But, perhaps PAPPY is also right, and perhaps we might have won several other close games if he had been the team player he could have been. It's a sad situation for that to have occurred, but Stevie brought it on himself. More than anything, I hate that it happened with a player from one of our local high schools.

Add both those factors, and who knows what we might have done?
