Sorry folks, just venting. My almost-new iphone decided to go white screen of death on me yesterday (3 months old). The nasty ATT store where I bought it didn't give two damns and sent me on my way. (The one on Germantown Parkway near Dexter, do NOT shop there. This is the third time I've been screwed on this deal, I wish I had known )

The Apple Store never answers their phone. I tried everything suggested on the net (this is a common problem) with no solution. Apple national technical support more or less said there was nothing to be done except make an appointment to get the phone looked at. That's right, Friday afternoon is the earliest.

So please, take my advice. Don't buy a piece of crap iphone like I did. Don't buy from the ATT store in Cordova. Learn from my mistakes.
Love my iPhone, but I can't blame you for being pissed.

Call the Customer Service line for Apple. It's a 1-800 number. This is what I had to do one time and after enough bitching, i got a brand new phone free of charge, shipping included. You might have to put up a fight but at least the national help line understands customer service and is willing to work with you. For the record, I could have told you that going to the Apple store was a waste of time. Been there, done that, gave them the finger on the way out.

I DID call the national customer service line. They were no help at all. I don't even get to the Apple Store for 2 1/2 more days, so I haven't had the chance to flip them the bird. But I do have the satisfaction of having cost them two sales already from people I emailed who were thinking about buying one.

It was a pain in the ass when I went through it but I got taken care of eventually. I love my iPhone but I'm fully aware of how terrible the customer service and help is when it messes up.

Also, im not sure of the problem with yours but mine was a default software malfunction and they tried to tell me they wouldnt fix it because i had water damage to my phone. Do you know where the wetness sensor is on an iPhone? Its in the hole for the earbuds, thats right, its technically open to the open air. If you left the phone in your bathroom while you were showering, the steam will activate the sensor. But keep in mind that the problem was a "default software malfunction" but somehow my phone (which was never wet, only steam) was at fault because the sensor said it had been wet. I almost used it as a 400 dollar weapon.
My Wife has an iPhone, and we have an iMac at home. They are both great!

Mrs. TigerBill went through this identical thing with her iphone, the 'wetness' thing causing problems, but hers kept working and she liked it, so... (which is why I bought one in the first place). Having made my living in consumer electronics for more than 20 years I am appalled at how bad Apple customer service is, even in today's poor service environment.

Chi- I feel sure the majority of their products work fine, but I judge a company by how they work with problems, and Apple fails that test bigtime, at least for me.
I just got back from there. Went with a friend from work who was swapping out his wife's iPhone that died. There were a bajillion folks in there returning phones. All the walk-ins were told to make and appt and come back. Good thing my iPhone is working. AT&T can swap out phones, but it's up to that locations manager to do it. Most of the time they just sluff you off to the Apple Store.

Best of luck with everything.
My husband has owned Macs since they first came out - even used to sell them. He got an iMac and it was a lemon. Having it fixed was a major undertaking, and it's still screwed up. He's sworn off of Apple as a result.

Their customer service is without a doubt the worst I've ever heard of anywhere. They call themselves "geniuses" on top of everythiing else!

Thanks. I didn't know that about the ATT store, but it doesn't surprise me. The slug who waited on me couldn't have made it more clear that he didn't care whether I died on the spot or about my phone. Big, tall, fat guy, walked like a walrus. Awful, awful store.

He was probably the manager.

I agree with you. For some reason my iTouch doesn't sync all of my songs when I buy them... so if I buy a song from itunes and try to put it in a playlist that I made then the song doesn't show up. Its happened to me several times and twice I have called the helpline which usually results in an hour long conversation of them having me do all these troubleshoot run throughs (even though I tell them what is wrong and all they have to do to fix it is take the song off my account and replace the same song again). It gets real annoying, the only redeeming factor is that the people I talk to are usually nice, albeit unhelpful.
I loved my iPod until i dropped it in a cup of water.

I love my crackberry and I'm about to buy the "tour." I had a problem with my first one and they over-nighted me another one.

Well, not Bill's problem, but many problems.

Couldn't agree more. And their commercials claim they are rated number 1 in customer service.

My ipod stopped syncing, so I was forced to see a genius. I handed him the ipod and he was unable to turn it on, and told me it was totally dead. I took it back, unlocked the buttons, turned it on and told him that he had to take the safety catch off. Eventually he told me the hard drive died, and that was 6 weeks after the warranty period, so my only option is to buy a new one. I haven't been too fond of apple since then.

We bought an iPod refurbished from the Apple Store on-line for our daughter that inexplicably quit working. One call solved the problem.

You are right, I work, hire and train folks in retail customer service. We are supposed to do our jobs right, and yes, we train our folks that the defining moment of customer service is not when things go well, but when things go wrong. I just don't subscribe to the idea that when you get a few bad apples (haha), you judge the entire company by that. YOU may be pissed, but there are about 268 million folks that love em'......

Understood. My last job working for The Man was as a traveling retail sales trainer. I wrote my own program, it was about 12 hours usually spread over 2 days. Before that I sold consumer electronics for 10 years and was Salesman of the Month 68 times at 2 different companies. I didn't get paid to help people with a problem and I hated doing it. But I did it anyway. I also earned one heck of a lot of business by helping when I didn't have to.

Apple is huge, I'm just a little ankle-biter to them, I know that. I have already cost them two sales, however, and ATT two sales, because I blame ATT more than Apple.
I love my iphone and I got great service on my problem with the phone. They were suppose to charge me for the call since it was after the warranty time but since I had never called before they didn't charge me.

Now watch me have problems with it. lol

Apple, and Snapple the two most overrated things on earth. I'm sure there are others. But that at least rhymed.
i have never had any problems with any of my ipods, but you just never know when that may happen. i have the storm but recently the bottom right corner has stopped working, guess i'm going to have to figure out something to do. i would like the iphone, but can't switch to att, not sure if i would want another storm, the storm 2, the tour, or wait and see if it comes to verizon.
