Lonnie Ballentine (S, Southwind) made the ESPN 150 watch list for 2011. Nice to see a Tiger commit in there. I think there's actually four local Memphis kids on that list.

I know Coach Porter has been recruiting to LSU and got him to agree to a visit and to camp there next summer. Might be hard to keep him if he gets an offer down there.

I agree it will be challenging holding on to him, but at least for now, he seems pretty committed. His recruitment has a long way to go, that is for sure.

A good one on one interview with Ballentine:

Yes indeed! BUt first let me say lonnie is working hard on becoming ready for this class. HE will graduate this year possibly. If he has everything he needs in order, then there is a strong chance he could end up in this class. And that will be huge if he can get it done. But working very very hard on it. Trust me!

He's already got an offer from LSU. He was at there camp this year. When Les Miles heard he commited to us he called his mom to ask what's the deal.
From everything I have heard he is very committed to becoming a Tiger and getting out of school this year.

The first part has me thrilled, but the second I am not totally sure about. If he is physically and mentally ready, then I am all for it!

That is going to be an issue for sure. Very likely if he went else where he would be an automatic redshirt and the chance to play right off could be an advantasge for us but i would prefer he did redshirt and gain strength and get used to college life.
This kid will graduate this year. I know him. He's being pursued hardest by Louisville and UCLA. Also Pete Carrol and USC have started talking to him.

He doesn't want to be away from his mom. His mom hates flying and he also like the Tigers. He's already hung out with Cannon Smith and Dad last week.

I agree it could be tough to hold onto him for Memphis, but it's still most likely he keeps his commitment. BTW he had 2 interceptions against Overton Friday.
