Talked to Matt last night and he said that the plan for this season is for a couple of folks ( He and Paul and perhaps others?) to get the main course cooked up and the rest of us will pay $5 / head to help offset the costs. Plates, napkins, etc apparently have been provided by BlazerJay, at least for this week's affair. In addition, he said the rest of us can also bring side items and/or deserts, etc as needed. Not sure what the plan is for drinks but we can obviously take care of that for ourselves. There wont be any particular organization to the sides/desserts unless we do it ourselves here on the board. This week's main course is Fowl ( Chicken), prepared at least 3 ways. Hope to see everybody Saturday afternoon.
Shouldn't that be f-Owl?
Maybe a change of plans, which is why i havent posted anything. I went down to UAB today to pickup my tickets and parking passes (they had gotten lost in the mail.) Last year we had 14 tailgating spots as a group. That was way to many, better for us to have 6 to setup tents, tables and chairs in and not spend money on spots that we are not using for the tailgate. That said, of the 14 concurrent spots in our section, only three (My two and Attalla's) have been renewed for this season. Are we going to have a tailgate? If we are going to have one, I need people to step up and help pay for the other three spots that will make up our tailgating rectangle. If people are interested in pitching in, then I will get the other three spots in my name (to go with the two I already paid for, and we will have our tailgating spot and move forward with plans for saturday.
Matt,

Give me a spot to buy and I'll call up the athletic office...

The family and I will be missing this first game, but we'll be out there for the rest of the season....
Wait and see if we can get two more commitments to buy one. If people want to go in halves, that works too.
How much is a spot?
$95
The best way to do it going forward is for us to just have one person to get all six spots next year and collect money from the tailgaters leading up to the season so that we can have say 20 people paying $30 a piece instead of 6 people paying $95 a piece with 20 people tailgating. I dont mind getting the last three spots we need this year as long as I can get re-reimbursed for them from the group.

Right now, this is what I know we have for our tailgate saturday at noon:
Two Canopies (Attalla's and mine.)
Two Tables (Attalla's and mine.)
plates/cups/cutlery (donated by blazerjay)
A community cooler with soft drinks, water, and ice (brought by me.)
A grill (brought by DMBlazer.)
Various forms of F-Owl (Being purchased by attalla and myself)
A signup sheet for the SMU tailgate (Themed: Their from Texas, $%&# it, we're having steak.)

Now, last year, we averaged around 35 people at the start of the year, down to about 12 at the end of the year (known as the Watson effect, regardless of who is coach.)

I guess what I want to know is, are we doing a Blazertalk Tailgate this year? If so, what are you bringing hardware wise (canopies, tables, etc.) Can you bring a desert or side? Can you pitch in to help cover the cost of the three spots we need? Are you ok with paying $5 a head each home game? What time will you be there?

I will bring a large cooler filled with ice and drinks. Since I'm traveling 250 miles one-way to come to the games, I can't do much more most games.

I have a square card table and a rectangle one. If they are needed, just let me know. I can also bring a large cooler and ice.

Unfortunately, due to still being unemployed at the moment, no.

We're in, with a caveat or two. We're missing the Rice game, both going to be out of town. We're in for the rest. Getting my peeps down early is like pulling teeth though. May wind up in two cars a time or two. We're good with chipping in, bringing food, and buying stuff like paper and plasticware.
I've got a table, and can maybe scare up a canopy. We'll bring either a dessert or a side. I'll have to talk with the missus, but I'll know today, about that and the canopy. I don't think I can chip in on the spots, but the $5 a head seems fair, though I don't look forward to explaining it to the missus.

Don't get me wrong, I think it entirely appropriate and fair, but school starting has nickel-and-dimed us mercilessly over the last month or so, as well as getting our tags renewed. Financially, we usually spend September recovering from August.

Oh, and we'll likely be there around noon.
Ok, Rice tailgate is a go! I bought two extra spots to give us 5 together which is enough for 4 canopies and a place to setup the grill. We will be located in the same general spot as the past few years, with canopies setup in spots 27,78,48, and 49.

Going to make an official thread so people can discuss sides.
Darn, if the game was a 6pm, I could make it. I'll actually be driving thru the Ham around 5pm, on my way close to Jasper to work a festival. Ya'll have fun, and I hope to be able to make some games when the business doesn't tie me down.
I am definitely in for the $5.00 Tailgating!! I will be there around NOON too. Anything thing else needed???
