There is apparently a proposal in front of the NCAA to do away with media guides. It was brought out by the SEC and the Pac-10.
Of course the SEC and PAC-10 would propose to eliminate one of the ways smaller conferences get information to the media. When it comes to the big conferences there are enough alternative sources of information thanks to all the coverage they get that it wouldn't have much of an impact on them. Essentially the only way you could get good information-laden coverage by the media would be to already have good information-laden coverage.\

The NCAA shouldn't have control over this stuff. If an individual conference or school wants to print up a handy guide for the media and fans to have all the trivia and facts in front of them, at some cost to the school, then what's the problem?
WTF?

How is this the NCAA's business?
The NCAA set the limit of 208 pages a few years ago. Some used to be say 600 pages and the old, "Bigger is better" was the standard.

That said, it would be ludicrous for the NCAA to mandate that they no longer be printed.

The good thing is that EMU's is 208 pages and so is Florida's. :)
A number of schools have eliminated all but a few printed copies of the media guide.

The SEC and Pac-10 would like to join them but fear that if they do, they will end up recruiting against schools that don't eliminate them.

I like the electronic and really wish someone would make a good iPhone app of media guides to make searching for names and records even better than the PDF versions.
