FRANKFORT, Ky. — Police have charged former Kentucky basketball coach Billy Gillispie with drunken driving.

Police dispatcher Todd Sparrow said Lawrenceburg police arrested Gillispie and took him to the nearby Franklin County Regional Jail.

WLEX-TV in Lexington reports that Gillispie was pulled over in a white Mercedes with Texas tags around 2:45 a.m. Thursday after someone reported seeing the car driving erratically.

The station reports that police also charged a passenger in the car with alcohol intoxication.

Gillispie was replaced by Memphis coach John Calipari this year after a rocky two-year tenure in which the Wildcats went 40-27. Last season's 22-14 mark tied for the second-most losses in the program's 106-year history.

FRANKFORT - Former Kentucky basketball coach Billy Gillispie has left a central Kentucky jail following an arrest on a charge of driving under the influence.

Gillispie's lawyer, Darran Winslow of Louisville, says Gillispie was released on his own recognizance, but declined further comment.

According to reports, Gillispie was pulled over in a white Mercedes-Benz with Texas license plates at about 2:45 a.m. Thursday and told police he and a passenger had been golfing. Anderson County is west of Lexington.

Police dispatcher Todd Sparrow said Lawrenceburg police arrested Gillispie on the DUI charge and took him to jail in neighboring Franklin County. WLEX-TV in Lexington reported that Gillispie was pulled over after someone reported seeing the car driving erratically.

Gillispie had a cell phone to his ear in the back of a vehicle Thursday morning as he left the jail with his lawyer and another man.

This would be the third time Gillispie has been arrested on a DUI-related charge.

Gillispie was replaced by Memphis coach John Calipari this year after a rocky two-year tenure in which the Wildcats went 40-27.

Is Alan Cutler covering this story?
Would this be his 3rd DUI?
So where are all the UK blow hards that used to get so pissed and indignant when anyone mentioned Billy Clyde's regular impersonations of Otis The Town Drunk? (crickets chirping...)

Same place the ones that reflexively freak out when anyone slams Cal will be when the heat gets turned up by the national media and the NCAA.
So I guess this means they should have let him coach this season and then fired him.
Poor guy, he needs to find a job quick for the protection.
