Quote:KENT, Ohio – Starting with a three-team, three-day tournament at the M.A.C. Center in mid-November the Kent State men’s basketball team will play a 14-game non-conference schedule in the upcoming 2009-10 season. Included in the 14-game slate are trips to NCAA regional finalist Pittsburgh and NCAA regional semifinalist Xavier in December as well as an ESPNU BracketBuster game at home in February.

“We wanted to put together a schedule that gives us the best opportunity to earn an invite to a post-season tournament and I think we were able to accomplish that,” said second year Head Coach Geno Ford. “We have the potential to play seven teams that reached the post-season last year plus the ESPNU BracketBuster game, so we’ll face tough competition that will help enhance our RPI come March.”
Good schedule for Kent State. Very similar to Ohio's schedule. We both have Pitt and Robert Morris away. Both play 2 OVC teams, both have 1 non-division 1 and both have a MEAC team and a Southland team. Both teams playing about 2-3 teams from A-10, MVC, CUSA conferences. I would guess either 8-6 or 9-5 for Kent State against this schedule.
Weaker schedule than Kent has been playing. I would agree that it is similar to OU's schedule.
I think it will prove to be of similar strength to previous seasons. I guess we'll see. I think the philosophy is the right one. If we're good enough, this schedule should set us up well for conference play and the post-season. If we are not good enough, it doesn't matter.

Scheduling is always tricky and difficult for MAC teams. Schedules that are too tough (get beat up, lose confidence) or too easy (untested, not pushed to conference intensity) can ruin teams.
RPI wise this schedule doesn't get it done for atlarge. Ball State, Ohio and Kent State each with high number of home games non-conference. Sounds like the coaches got together and are trying to put up some wins and see where the chips fall.
A trip to South Florida is also included in this schedule, with USF coming to KSU the following year.

I don't think the USF series starts until next season.

Correction--we do play there on 11/25. Just not on the schedule page as yet, but in the team news section. They visit us next year. I changed the schedule above, also moving the Rochester game which is now part of the Hispanic College Fund Classic.
UAB, Xavier, and Pitt are good games but i can't see why Kent State shouldn't win all the other games. Granted I don't follow college basketball as much.
