Pretty simple. The 5 best action movies of the 90s and Saving Private Ryan got me to thinking about this. Here's mine.

1. Band of Brothers (mini-series, but whatever)
2. Saving Private Ryan
3. Full Metal Jacket
4. Braveheart (old school military)
5. Enemy at the Gates
1. Band of Brothers
2. Saving Private Ryan
3. Midway (my grandfather and I watched it every time it came on, I had parts of it memorized as a kid).
4. We Were Soldiers (because I loved the book)
5. The Patriot/Sgt. York. Can't make up my mind.
Band of Brothers
Full Metal Jacket
Memphis Belle
MASH
Troy
Patton
Mash
Catch 22
Apocalypse Now
Full Metal Jacket
Dang your avatar reminded me of Dr. Strangelove. That is a tough one to leave out.

1. Acolyspe Now
2. Bravehart
3. Battle of Midway
4. Catch 22 (Even though I liked the book better than the movie.)
5. WhenWe Were Soldiers
1. Hamburger Hill
2. Major Payne
3. Down Parascope
4. In the Army Now
5. Tropic Thunder
man got to go with Tropic Thunder as one of them
1 Saving Private Ryan
2 Band of Brothers
3 Black Hawk Down
4 Full Metal Jacket
5 Platoon
6 Flags of our Fathers
7 Letters from Iwo
8 Sink the Bismark
9 Schindler's List (assuming it qualifies as a "military" film)
10 A Bridge Too Far.

Okay, that's ten. Kept me from posting twice.
Adding:
The Big Red 1
Dirty Dozen
5? You must be kidding. In no particular order.

Stalingrad
The Longest Day
The Big Red One (Director's cut: regular cut is weak)
The Great Escape (Both versions, the UK is more accurate)
A Bridge Too Far
Gods and Generals
The Alamo ( last version, with Billy Bob Thornton, very accurate)
Tora, Tora, Tora!
Kelly's Heroes (For the working Tiger tank if nothing else)
Sahara (the one with Bogie)
The Battle of Britain
Band of Brothers
Saving Private Ryan (the authentic German armored vehicles alone make this a must)
Enemy at the Gates (okay, despite the almost endless inaccuracies bordering on the ridiculous, I still liked the movie. But Stalingrad does a better job of portraying the action)
Downfall
Team America World Police

Sgt. York

To Hell and back

Midway

From here to eternity
Iron Eagle04-rock
Gettysburg

For me, Sheen just sucked as Lee. Duvall was much better. Besides, I hate the ending for Gettysburg. All those brave men killed for no reason.

03-lmfao You knew he just had to do that.

Schindler's List
Braveheart
The Patriot
Tora! Tora! Tora!
Sergeant York

(*) "Gods and Generals" is one of only two films I've ever walked out on. Might have been historically accurate, but some of the most horrendous producing and story line done for a professionally released film in recent history.

It crossed my mind, but I view it more as a comedy, than a war movie. Actually probably an anti war movie. It's just a perfect movie. Kubrick, made a couple of those. One could make a good case for "Guns of Navarone", I loved watching the Germans fire the big gun. It was quite elaborate.
