Does anyone know if these games will be covered live or otherwise? I would be very interested in following these games and seeing how Geno plans on using the guards as a rotation at the 1 and the 2. Any info on these upcoming games would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
It would be nice to be able to watch, or at least listen to the games.
No chance they are going to be on live anywhere. There will likely be good reporting and box scores on the KSU website a day or two after each game. Keep in mind, none of the newcomers can play, so we won't be at full strength.
It would be nice if they could come back with a recruit like Enrico Lenguini, a 6'9" SF that bombs threes, runs the floor like a deer and handles the rock like a PG.
Game 1 is a KSU victory !

Italy Trip Update Day 3 - Kent State Defeats Basket Scauri 83-76

The Golden Flashes had their first taste of international basketball this evening posting an 83-76 win over Basket Scauri.

“It was a good experience for our team to play in a hostile environment and under some duress,” said Head Coach Geno Ford. “I thought we hung together and showed some signs of toughness in the second half that were encouraging. We still have a long, long way to go in some areas, but overall it was a very positive experience.”

Senior Tyree Evans led the way with 26 points, including five three pointers while also adding four rebounds and two assists. In his first game action since the 2008 NCAA Tournament, junior Rodriquez Sherman chipped in 17 points.

Kent State led the majority of the first two 10-minutes period before a burst by Basket Scauri put the home team ahead 38-36 at halftime. The Golden Flashes then used an 18-6 third period run to build up a nine-point (56-47) advantage. Evans started to get hot scoring seven points during the stretch.

Scauri fought back to even the count at 60-60 before the Richmond, Va. Product caned back-to-back three’s and finished with nine points during a 10-0 run that put the game away. In all Evans had 21 points in the second half.

Other notable KSU performances included sophomore Justin Greene who was a perfect 6-6 from the field to finish with 13 points and five rebounds. Senior Mike McKee knocked in three shots from beyond the arc and was tied for second on the team with six rebounds. Fellow fifth-year senior Brandon Parks pulled in a team-best 12 rebounds, which senior Chris Singletary handed out six assists to go along with five rebounds and five points.

“Tyree and Mike both shot the ball really well from the outside,” said Coach Ford. “I thought we had some really good passes. Chris moved the ball well and help set a lot of guys up for open shots. Justin and Brandon both gave us solid production from the inside and Rod had a little rust being his first game night, but overall he a pretty good statistical performance and a nice ball game.”

The Golden Flashes head to Northern Italy tomorrow to face Virtus Siena of the Italian B-1 League.

Hard to tell what to make of this win, but interesting stats from the Flashes: 26 points, 12 boards and 6 assists translates well.
Im glad kent won in italy too. HOw many more game they will play their?
See Carducci's blog to check out the funky uniforms they're wearing on the tour. The Basket Scauri player pictured looks like a midget.

Those are their practice jerseys. They are reversible so the guys can play blue/gold in practice and not have to go shirts and skins.
sounds like Kent won again today. looking forward to the details!
Oh, so those are the practice jerseys. That's quite a relief. Reversible practice jerseys have been around for over 40 years, at least, even at the high school level. But when did they become so fancy? They used to be just plain, cotton shirts.

They became fancy the same way fancy basketball shoes did. The pros first, and then it moved right on down.
3-0 !

Italy Update: Kent State Fights For 70-68 Win Over Fulgor Foril
Courtesy: Kent State Athletic Communications

Senior Brandon Parks' tip dunk with 40 seconds left put the Golden Flashes ahead to stay as they improved to 3-0 on their Italian Tour with a 70-68 win over Fulgor Foril on Wednesday night.

"Brandon's put back at the end was just huge," said Head Coach Geno Ford. "It was as impressive play as you will see and basically won the game for us."

In a game of runs, Kent State had the final outburst with a 10-0 stretch midway through the fourth period that erased a 60-55 deficit. Seniors Anthony Simpson and Chris Singletary each had four points during the run.

"We really hung together and had a single purpose," said Geno Ford. "We mainly talked about defense in the timeouts since we don't have a lot of our offense in yet."

For the game Singletary scored all 11 of his points in the second half to help Kent State climb out of a 43-36 hole. The Golden Flashes came out of the break with an 18-7 run that was also fueled by Singletary (six points) and Simpson (five points).

Parks, who just missed a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds, scored eight of Kent State's first 10 points as the Golden Flashes controlled much of the first period. Eight straight points from senior Tyree Evans helped KSU build up a 35-31 advantage, but after that the offensive flow stalled out in the second period. The Italian B-1 league squad closed out the period on a 12-1 run to take that seven-point half time lead.

"It's the second straight game in which we've been able to hold the opponent to less than 25 points in the second half," said Ford. "We really worked on the defensive end and got some key stops when we needed them."

Evans led the team with 15 points while junior Rodriquez Sherman added 13 to go with seven assists and five steals. Simpson ended with nine points and five assists while Singletary added five rebounds, four assists and four steals. Sophomore Justin Greene had a nice game inside with eight rebounds.

The Golden Flashes end their four-game tour on Friday with a came against Fulgor Omegna of the Italian B-1 League in Lake Como.

Mike Mckee Diary

The team we played tonight was a lot more fundamentally sound and really moved the ball around more than the others we've played. We've not had much time to work on our team defense this time of year. The team tonight ran a lot of high pick and rolls so we had to work on rotating and scrambling back to the open man.

It threw us off at first and led to some open threes, but in the second half we did a lot better job of scrambling out to the shooters. For me personally this was probably the best team we've played thus far.

It was a good game for us because we were tested both mentally and physically. We also had to fight some adversity for the referee's as we adjusted to some of the different international rules for traveling. We got called on quite a few of them tonight and with each one we'd lose another possession and it started to add up.

It was close down the stretch and it did a lot for our team showing that we were able to fight through all the adversity.

Florence was a lot different from Rome. It is much more of a smaller and has a community feel with everyone out in the streets walking around. It was a very relaxing atmosphere.

The statue of David was pretty cool to see. Until you look at it up close you don't realize how much time and artistic ability it takes to chisel that out of marble. When I first saw it I didn't realize that it was that big. Its 15 feet tall.

Tomorrow we'll head up to Venice to do some more sightseeing. I'm looking forward to seeing all the canals and gondolas. It will be interesting to see how every gets around and interacts with each other in that setting since the whole city is basically on water.
Sounds very promising so far. Each game it seems like Rod and Tyree are the first names they mention. Should be a fun backcourt to watch. It's impressive that they've done this well considering the new guys can't play yet!

Rod, Tyree, and Chris are going to be the BIG 3. The question is, can we get solid enough play down low to help us win the MAC. If our 4/5 men step up, we could be pretty good. I am not sure what other teams have coming back, but I will be interested to see where the "experts" say we will finish.
Well, there are an increasing number of people posing as experts, but really very, very few that have a grasp on the intricacies of the MAC. Some know a lot about a handful of teams, but I hardly ever see many scouting reports that show much beyond a superficial understanding of the talent on various teams. How mnay writers are there that focus on the MAC that don't have a beat heavily weighted towards a small number of schools?

Many are little more than fans who are bullish on their own teams amd know them inside out, but are woefully ignorant of what is going on at other schools.

One thing the experts show us year after year is that that have no clue how the season will turn out. Maybe that is as it should be.
I put little to no stock in the "experts" opinions or the coaches polls. They always tend to be way off.
I would like to fly under the radar this year, especially with the pre-season polls. Let some other team walk around with a bullseye on their back.

Yes the kiss of death is to be picked by the media. Let the team west of here be the media darlings and get picked to win it all. most of the time the media has no clue.

GO FLASHES!
Anybody know the quality of the teams we're playing in Italy? It's nice that we're 3-0 so far, but are these comparable teams to KSU?
