15. West Virginia: Hopefully for the Mountaineers, the decade will be known more for Steve Slaton, Pat White and two BCS bowl wins rather than the way the Rich Rodriguez era ended.

18. Louisville: This has to hurt: Louisville's history this decade resides these days mostly in Arkansas. Bobby Petrino (head coach from 2003-06) hired John L. Smith (Louisville coach from 1998-2002) as special teams coach in the offseason. Steve Kragthorpe faces a critical season after an 11-13 start.

35. South Florida: One of the success stories of the reconstituted Big East. Jim Leavitt has had the Bulls in the top five while winning nine in both 2006 and 2007.

40. Pittsburgh: Is this the year for Wanny? It's been five years since the Panthers won the Big East with a modest 8-4 record.

43. Cincinnati: The new Miami (of Florida, not Ohio). Brian Kelly is turning around an urban program with plenty of untapped talent.

74. Rutgers: BCS contention in 2006. Back-to-back eight-win seasons since. The old Rutgers is gone under Greg Schiano.

78. Connecticut: The Huskies are poster children for The Golden Decade. The program moved up to Division I-A in 2000, had its first winning season four years later and now is an established Big East member. If you're able to recruit to UConn, you can recruit anywhere. That's why Randy Edsall is one of the hottest coaches around.

80. Syracuse
: When the decade began, The 'Cuse was still a Big East power. As it ends, it is one of the worst programs in the country. The last winning record came in 2001. Doug Marrone tries to dig out the Orange.
Allow me to be the first to say this about Kragthorpe:

"#$^%@$%^@$%&@#%&%&*#^$&*^$*^$#^#%^&#%#&%^*^*^$&(%^&U#$^%&%%&$*^&*&*(*!@#&^$#&%^*^&(&$$(&(^(#^&(^$(^&$#*^$@$%&*%@!!@!@$@%!^!$%$&#%&%^*&#%^&%@#^$&@&%&#$@@!!!!*!*^%^@#&"

WVU is still going to gain ground on the Orange, dude... 05-mafia
GRob gave us the break we needed. I'm just glad we were able to take advantage of it... 04-rock

Hopefully, Marrone will turn it around for y'all. We'll see. Year 3 should tell, I figure. The WVU-SU series should be about even then too. We get to even it up this year... 05-mafia
I'm glad Dodd can manage to compliment UC without taking a backhanded jab at them. There may be hope for him yet.

However, all the credibility of those rankings went straight down the tubes with USF being #35. Their rapid rise has been absolutely admirable, and their potential is limitless. But up to now, potential is all they've shown. To rank them ahead of UC and Pitt, two programs who have been to NYD bowls this decade, is insane.

I have nothing at all against USF. It's actually worked out much better than BC would have. But, please, as far as proclaiming them the best thing since sliced bread, get back to me when they win the BE.
As far as non-BE teams, these being ahead of UC and Pitt are also a joke:

BYU
Hawaii
Clemson
Georgia Tech
Southern Miss
Fresno State
Arkansas

HI, yes, not sure about the rest... 03-shhhh

How is Arkansas being ranked ahead of UC & Pitt a joke?
This is from the last decade, not since the beginning of college football. That is the reason why BJ is saying that the list is BS.
OK Elf... I'll address these one at a time:

BYU: Borderline bad in the early 2000's. Resurgent in only recent years. Haven't made a BCS game.
You agree with Hawaii.
Clemson: Like Dodd said, they haven't won an ACC title in a decade or so.
Georgia Tech: They haven't either.
Southern Miss: They've had their day, and have only managed a Liberty Bowl or two for it. Cincy's run them out the last two times they've played.
Fresno State: They get an eye-opening win now and then, but that's usually negated by the end of the year when they lose to Nevada or someone. Consistent 8 or so wins in the WAC is no big feat.
Arkansas: The guy said they've won 7 games a year. UC and Pitt have been doing that.
Pitt's only claim to a BE title is the 4-way split title of 5 years ago. I would group Pitt in with the above schools, but it's not outrageous that Pitt is ranked behind them. I mean Wanny just had his first winning season with the team last season.

Oh no, the Ben Schwartzwalder Trophy is coming back to Syracuse where it belongs. 05-nono
What army's going to assist y'all? The Orange won't be able to do it themselves this year... 05-mafia

I'll give UC and Pitt some credit but you cannot overlook the fact that Arkansas has had to do this in the SEC.

And when they had a chance to win a really significant game in the SEC, Clint Stoerner fumbled the ball with about a minute to go, and gave UT their '98 national championship...

or Reggie fish fumbled a kickoff return in the SEC championship game that got florida ahead for good. Oh thanks for reminding me of Stoerner trying to use the damn ball to prop himself up. 03-banghead
You asked for it... 05-mafia
The original article writer got something wrong about UConn. He said the Huskies moved up to Division I-A in 2000 and had their first winning season four years later. It was actually three years later. The first bowl bid came in 2004 because not enough at-large spots were available in 2003.

As far as the all-time rankings are concerned, Rutgers should be higher, the program was not really horrendous until the late '90s. From the mid '70s to the mid '90s, the Scarlet Knights were mediocre, but had a lot of winning seasons too. The Terry Shea Error was when the bottom fell out.
