Sorry if this thread was already mentioned in the political forum, I was more concerned about the storm that pased through the area yesterday. I know AC Wharton, Jerry Lawler, Price Mongo, temporary mayor Myron Lowery are among a few of the viable candidates running in October to be the next Mayor of Memphis, but who do people think will win and be the next mayor of Memphis? This will be a very intresting race because of the time of year and new candidates who are running to be mayor.
Does anybody have a list of who has officially gotten on the ballot?

Here is a list of the Memphis mayorial candidates that I found online and this is the link for that item. Per the about.com website here are some of the candidates that thrown their hat in the Mayoral election this year.

1. Charlotte Bergmann
2. Charles Carpenter
3. Carol Chumney
4. James Harvey
5. Jerry Lawler
6. Myron Lowery
7. Sharon Webb
8. Kenneth Whalum, Jr.
9. A.C. Wharton
10. Wanda Halbert

Other possible candidates possibly mentioned in this article for a mayoral run for the City of Memphis special election include Kemp Conrad, Thomas Long and Herman Morris. This is a very long list indeed. http://memphis.about.com/od/governmentan...ection.htm
Lets go lawler
Memphis will be the laughing stock of America if Jerry Lawler is elected (MN and CA can't laugh).

Just by judging that list, I think Wharton will win. His name is the most well known and he generally is thought of in a positive manner.

I hope his mission isn't to "keep it real".
I'd like to see Herman Morris make another run, either he or Waharton would be 100 times better than what y'all had.

Like he could do any worse than King Willie? I'd trade that crown for his any day...

All of these City of Memphis mayoral candidates for the most part are really quiet. Myron Lowery might have a little advantage since he is in fact the temporary mayor until October 27 special election this year. I agree that A.C. Wharton is probably the leading candidate right now, but their is over eighty-five days to go before the election, and things can quickly change with politics.

STFU. Just because you moved outside the city limits doesn't mean you aren't directly affected by the result of this election. My Dad lives in Cordova now and announced he doesn't live in Memphis anymore. I was like ???. My Dad is in his mid-eighties (and he's my Dad), so he gets a pass. You're still the same punk I grew up with, so STFU.

Edit from previous article. Per today's article in the Commercial Appeal, Wanda Halbert announced that she will make a decision to whether run for the Mayor of Memphis by the end of this week. She stated that she would like to be the first female mayor in Memphis and have her painting as a mural for a mayor of Memphis. She commentated that their were no murals for any female mayors for the city of Memphis.
Lawler I hope! He could appoint Dundee, Handsome Jimmy Valiant, The Fabulous Ones, and Bam Bam Bigelow to positions at City Hall a la Herenton.

Personally, at this point, I dont care. We are house shopping and when we see a house we like, I look for 1 thing. If it has city taxes listed it goes into the garbage. I wanna buy some land in the country and post a sign that says "Tresspassers will be shot. No questions asked" but she says no. So its gonna be G-town, Arlington, Lakeland, Atoka, Rosemark, or Fayette County but not in the city limits of Memphis.

So you are looking to live in the suburbs outside the City of Memphis in Shelby County or in Fayette County. City property taxes in Memphis are high, and I totally understand your point. I understand your desire for peace and quiet in a area you are going to buy a house, but posting a "Trepassers will be shot" seems to be a little too much, unless you have had past incidents with neighbors in your neighborhood where you live.

You can now add Wanda Halbert's name to the list of people who are throwing their hat into the Memphis mayoral campaign. She announced yesterday, per the Commercial Appeal she will join the October special election for the Mayor of Memphis. She is the tenth candidate to join the mayor race this upcoming October. Here is the following article regarding her candidacy. http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/200...for-mayor/

What is Doctor Willie Herenton goals doing considering to run for mayor again after he resigned not even a month ago? Can he legally run for two offices at the same time? Does anyone really know what are the rules and regulations regarding this?

i don't guess there are any stipulations about running for office, because goodness knows the media would have been all over that, just HOLDING more than one office at a time.

Did anyone see Geoff Calkins article in the Commerical appeal describing Dr. Willie Herenton as a meglomaniac? Truer words have not be written for this man who does not want to anwser a question, and try to obfuscate anything anyone else wants to say about him. This man his an ego the size of Cleveland. He has no interest in runing the city of Memphis or Congress, he is a self promoter in the say way as a P.T. Barnum was in his heyday.
