Nice to know Kill & Joe are in regular contact and da Coach returned to NIU recently...hey, Joe, what about your boating?
Quote:"The day they beat Toledo (38-7 on Oct. 18), before he even got off the field he was on the cell phone because he knew how much I hated Toledo," Novak said with a laugh. "Then they sent me the game ball.

Awesome.
Great to hear Novak is doing well and still close to the program. I love the "hate Toledo" comment. All those Toledo losses had to instill some hatred.

Also, John Sahly's coverage of NIU deserves recognition. The Chronicle needs to keep that boy around for awhile.

I always thought Novak was a classy guy, and liked the way he represented your program.

As a Toledo fan, I smirked when I read this, but it adds some flavor to the rivalry. You've got a good team.

Good luck this year Huskies (except when we whip you this year at the Glass Bowl)...hee hee.
Coach Joe did more for our program than anyone since 1971 when I began following the Huskies.
What makes his success at NIU all the more sweet is having taken over the program following dark days only to be followed by even darker days until he made NIU into the team he built from the basement up.
this article makes me miss Joe Novak

I think that is a common occurance when a coach takes over a program that has struggled and basically starts over from scratch. Hopefully we are seeing the basketball program come out of the dark days as Coach Patton is starting from the basement up.

It was an interesting article. I never met Coach Novak but a couple Geneseo kids played football for him at NIU. From what I remember, things I heard about him from the kids and their parents was pretty positive. I think the fact that they have become friends indicates that Novak likes/approves of what Kill is doing with the program.
Joe recommended Kill for the job.

Kinda ironic coming on the heels one year later of the SIU upset of NIU with Kill masterminding the recovered kickoffs.

I've always been caught up in the NIU-Toledo rivalry, but I was overjoyed when you guys beat Michigan last year. I'll bet that was a good feeling. I love when any MAC team , even Toledo, beats a BCS.
