Recruiting logically has to start with good big men for the simple reason of demographics. There is a very small percentage of the population that is 6-9 or taller, and a miniscule percentage of that group that are coordinated enough to play D1 basketball. Statistically, it is such a difficult task that if you have any chance at a good big man you have to go after him. Point guards probably mean more to a team in the long run, but a majority of the male population is point guard size, so the chances of finding someone with those skills is vastly greater. Rarity creates value, and good big men are rare.
Which begs the question, why do we structure our offense around "inside-out".

I like Denver's approach. Spread the floor, create motion and the open shots will come. Outside shooting helps too.

I think the key is to get on the big guys early. I'm told there is a young man in Jonesboro who's in the 6'10" range, and I think he's either a sopohomore or junior, and John Pelphrey is down there seeing him two or three times a week. That's what our coaches have to do. If you wait until a kid that size is a senior, you're too late. Have to build a relationship with good players very early. I'd like to see rules where you couldn't even begin to scout players until their junior year in high school, and no contact until they're seniors. It's ridiculous how early coaches are offering kids scholarships. 13 year olds in some cases. Let them enjoy being kids for awhile.04-cheers
